I know a cross-fitter who owns a pitbull. I guess he got the D-Bag gene.

Dogbite.org is not a reliable source, but just for argument, let's assume that the 28 deaths by pits figure cited earlier is correct. Note that there are an estimated 2,000,000 pits in the USA. Hence, the "murder rate" by pits is .00014%.
By comparison, in 2014, the homicide rate in the Chicago area was 14.8/100,000 people. That's a rate of .0148%. Simple math reveals that human beings in Chicago are over 32 times more murderous than pit bulls, even using suspect statistics, and not counting other heinous "human" crimes in the comparison.
By your logic, I expect that you will now want to euthanize Chicago. However, more gently, perhaps the outrage directed at so called "pit bulls" might more usefully be directed at other problems?
Find me one pitbull owner who doesn't have other douche qualities...
-Ridiculous tattoos.
-Pick-up truck.
-NRA sticker.
-Flat-billed hat.
-General douche attitude.
Pit bull breeding should be ILLEGAL.
Canada is the land of wussies and nose up punks.
I've met
More pit bulls than Canadians i like.
The elitist Canadians with there silly pathes and how quick they are to say they are not American..
Can screw off.
We
Are all Yankees....
It makes me laugh they live a few hundred miles north and benefit from our economy and military and act like they could survive and thrive
Without us? Ask one of those elite Canadians where they go for mri? I'm glad there
High taxes give them such stellar
Healthcare:)
f-Canada....
I don't love pits....
But I've met some pretty nice ones... and I've met plenty of elitist shitty snobby Canadians
If we can make laws against a specific breed of dog why can't we make laws against a specific race of humans.

Young women don't have a "high" chance of being assaulted, scaremonger.

We're sorry that being literate looks "elitist" to you, eh.
I just read the whole thread, interesting stuff.
Over the past 30 years I have owned and trained dozens of dogs and although not scientific here are some of my observations / thoughts.
Pit bulls are more dangerous than most other breeds for the simple fact that they are so powerful. They can do a lot of damage very quickly.
They have been bred to not only to attack but to kill. And I have seen this trait.
Other breeds are just as quick-triggered. Huskies, Cow-Chows come to mind.
Most people should not own pit bulls. They are more dangerous with a weak or careless owner.
People should be required to get a licence to own a pit bull. If you think this is crazy, get yourself a Presa Canario or Dogo Argentino and let them play with your kids. The breeds are quite similar from a temperament standpoint. One last thing, I've owned all three breeds.

I am enjoying this thread. I find it hysterical. Literally.
Just thought I'd let you know that our Sally (resident scallywag and pit bull) is nursing her second litter. All pups spoken for. So if you're looking for an eighth sign of the impending apocalypse, maybe this will serve?
Dogbite.org is not a reliable source.
The number of pit bull attacks are much worse then they've been reporting.
Pit bull owners should NOT be allowed to breed with their dogs.

Let's ban all pit bulls (regardless of breed), AND their owners.
Just want to add that my dogs have already attacked several of the neighbors, LOL
Look at attack statistics. Pit bulls are near the top currently, because they are the dog du jour for gang bangers, meth heads, and various other delinquents and reprobates. Rottweilers and dobermans used to top the list when they were the haute "bad boy" breeds.
They are just like any other powerful breed that requires extensive socialization and training. Akitas, dobermans, rotts, fila Brasilias, kangals , mastiffs, etc etc. I've seen 120 pound male golden retrievers that were human aggressive due to owners. Pits aren't even particularly large or powerful, there are many breeds much more dangerous to humans.
I've got a lot of sympathy for animals, it's frustrating to see a beautiful breed's reputation tarnished by scum bag owners. It's sad to see it get to the point of legislation that could cause dogs to not be adopted. Ironically these breed bans seem to pop up in areas with "open minded" liberal type folks. It's modern mass hysteria legislation that is inappropriate and not proportional to the threat or based on facts. But I guess you can't exactly ban the owners, huh?

A guy I know has a black mamba snake that's bit a few neighbors and they died, but it's not the beautiful snake's fault that this happened. If only the guy would keep better tabs on the snack, and not let it roam the area on it's own then this wouldn't keep happening.
Horrible analogy, considering it is 100% false, not even plausible, and involves a creature that is a wild animal, not a domesticated pet breed. Feeble attempt at trolling.

Well I didn't tell you but this guy had raised the snake from a litter of them and trained it like a member of the family. In fact his kids used to play with it all of the time and they got along fantastically, the only problem was one time the snake bit one of them and the poor kid kicked the bucket but it wasn't the snake's fault, as it had never done anything like that before.

Actually, my neighbors own several of my Sally's progeny.
The horror. The horror.
The Ontario ban is pretty draconian upon reading.
You can't even have a Staffordshire bull terrier. Male Staffies are 30-35 pounds. 40 would be a big guy.
I see no provisions for rural folks, of which there are many in Ontario. You could have 100 acres in the middle of nowhere, and not own a pit bull or Staffie. Seems like my 120 pound Akita would be OK, though.
Looks like legislation passed by wussified urban busy-bodies.
