Finishes 16th at Griak after being ranked 18th Nationally. Even Burcham can't save them.

Not a surprise since their splits were fake...
You mean Jacob "no passion" Burcham? Lololol
I actually believe those where false splits, or they were RACING that tempo. It's the coach's job to prevent that.
First thing, thunder road is less than 3 miles long when I pull it up on google maps. It's not like magnolia road, as it's literally a measly 3 miles long.
Second, OU's coach was previously at Samford and they where dreadful. This is by no means a justified hiring. I wager the director knows him personally, but I'm too lazy to research it.
Conclusion: They got what the deserved.
Should have just gone over an hour to stillwater if they were just going to get bent over this weekend
what a disgrace, everyone prep for the "this is why we ran like dogshit today" excuses
The coach ran at A&M where the head track coached before he took over at Oklahoma.
The coach has been there for a few months only, he has earned the job and is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to training.
Did they even run there full team?
I'd be willing to bet they trained through the meet and are waiting to peak at the end of the season.
A lot of teams are burning way too hot right now with 7 weeks to go...
This discussion is why many college fans consider XC a strange overrated sport that warrants little respect and a small budget. (how much did that trip to Minnesota cost?)
As of this weekend; both the Notre Dame and USC-west football coaches are in big trouble and there can not make the play-offs or a big major bowl.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Men's coach can have his team run like absolute crap on 9/24; and still make Nationals in November and finish in the top 10 at that meet. It is hard to respect the coaching or the sport, at times !

While these about points could be valid reasons for Oklahoma running poorly, or worse than expected, I feel that well prepared teams who are running well at the moment (late September) should not be viewed as "burning way too hot" with seven weeks to go.
Do we say that about our Olympic athletes when they qualify at the trials 6-7 weeks in advance of the Olympic final...maybe the 800 guys...
If you're in great shape in late September and you race well (I.e Portland - a notoriously effective 10k program running a hilly 8k..I.e. Griak... this to me is wild that people may view this as "burning too bright, or racing too effectively, early on in the season.
This doesn't mean Oklahoma is awful, but it should mean that teams like Portland are underrated and raced well.
7 weeks is plenty if you are fit, but not sharp, and you have a bad race..7 weeks is also not that much time in the grand scheme of things. I would rather be fit and have raced well though between the two. ;)
How has he earned the job, where he walked onto a gig with all-Americans already built at his disposal, and yet, has ruined them in 4.5 months?
How has his resume showed he is ready to take the reigns with the OU distance runners?
Common sense tells me it will get worse. These kids at OU are still under Martin Smith scholarship money. Meaning the coach will not be able to recycle the money to getting solid distance runners, as the director will point it to other faucets being a jumps coach. Either he finds secretive talent and has an eye to find kids that no one else finds, or/and he can develop them. History does not point to either as being a likelihood.
If the coach can not make it work now, he will surely not make it work later.
They didn't hide burcham I wager either. He's hurt or mentally not there. Part of the game is keeping the runners HEALTHY.
Samford Athletes:
Developed a 14:09 guy into a 13:53 guy, a 4:27 girl into a 4:14 low girl, and a 3:48 guy into a 3:42 guy (a race in which he beat Burcham)
He knows how to identify talent and develop it.
Do your homework.
Developed? That's called year to year improvement.
3 examples? That's it?
Also, making small improvements with a scant few and ALREADY fast runners?
Alright.
I would call that successful in just a years work. Give him time. He still has never even had a chance to develop his own recruits anywhere he has been.
What you sad? you still a volunteer assistant somewhere? GTFO
You've obviously never coached athletes, just like you can't judge an athlete on one performance, you can't judge a coaches success on one EARLY season race.
It was a poor showing, however I am willing to bet the will improve significantly by conference.
Side note, sounds like someone is out to get him, perhaps he beat your @$$ back in college and you can't stand it.
Get off the boards TURD.
I went through a coaching change my sophomore year in college. Similar situation with a young inexperienced coach.
The first couple years the team underachieved beyond anyone's belief with how much natural talent was on the roster. Now that same coach and team makes and performs well at nationals every year with arguably less naturally talented runners on the roster. He has been able to recruit and build runners who fit his style of training. When he started he inherited runners who did not in any way fit his style of training.
Does that mean Oklahoma has hope? I don't know, but in my experience he will make it work. It might take a few years though.
You a fool sir, Thunder road is just the location where they run. 0% of that run was actually on Thunder road, but on the surrounding roads which are up to 13miles long... each
