isn't Denmark ashamed they didn't have anyone near these guys? That's what gets me, all these European countries invite the east africans to run their big races and the domestics aren't willing to put in the effort throughout the year to compete with them.
why should they suffer? They don't need running to escape poverty?
23-year old Kenyan James Mwangi Wangari, who had already run 59:12 this year, improved to 59:07 this morning to win the Copehagen half. That's the #2 half marathon time on the year. He's a Japanese based Kenyan who has also run 13:17 and 27:23 this year. He's run 1 marathon before (2:13 in 2014).
Ethiopia's Hiwot Gebrekidan Gebremaryam, a 21-year old who ran a 2:34 marathon debut in Dubai this year, won the women's race in 68:00.

Nasty depth. Most guys under 59:45 in a race ever?
i want to see all those talented road runners on a track race.
esp the women side: violah Jepchumba, Keitany, F.Kiplagat

Denmark is a very small country where long distance running is an almost non existing sport. Besides: how many Americans could have followed the winner? None.
Rupp could do it with the right training geared towards HM.

I estimate Rupp would need at least 6 separate hats to stay with the leaders today through mile 10.
The race course is one of the fastest in the world. Unfortunately there was a stiff head wind for a few km which took it's toll for a record attempt.
fyi - the race was also the Danish National Half Championships.
It's a great event with 22,000 participants

27:15 - 13:43 = 13:32 for the 2nd 5k

That's a great post. I appreciate the laugh!
Danish runners won London and Berling in the 1980s. Lost it for a couple of decades though. We're clawing our way back now with our best guy finishing 5th at this year's Europeans.
Our best runners ran at the Olympics, thus not competing today. Hanging with the today would have been a stretch though..

I am not sure why European race organizers are still inviting East African athletes to races when East African nations have not been respecting anti doping protocols for several years. As was done with Russia in the Olympics, European race organizers should be placing a blanket ban on East Africans from competing in their events. If they don't do this, they are doing nothing to develop European distance running and are instead just handing out money to drug cheats and cockroach managers. This is just the same as funding organized crime. If WADA and IAAF are doing nothing to control doping in distance running then European race organizers need to take a stand and show the way forward.

Dude is insane! Was on world record pace up until 15K which he reached in 41:32 whereas in 2010, Tadese on his way to the current World record(58:23) split 41:33 at the same point! Looks like he "died" badly that last 6K.
If this guy had just been a little patient and pass 10K in 27:35 - 27:40, Tadese's world record would be history.
The HM WR is actually pretty soft, compared to other distances. Won't be surprised if it is broken.
You'll see 57:59 sooner rather than later.

Won't say it is too soft though. If it were, we would be having plenty of athletes running at least sub 58:40. Even the great Haile only ran 58:55 which though was a world record at the time. But compared to the marathon, I agree with you. It race organizers come up with a league just like the World marathon majors for this distance and put in some good money, the world record will drop to 57:30s within three years. Just put this new guy and the other new guy (Barselius Kipyego) as well as Kamworor and Karoki in one race and Tadese's 58:23 will shift places quickly like Khanouchi's then marathon World record of 2:05:38!
