When an athlete or assistant coach does something horrible, the people who are responsible for controlling that person had better either report them to the authorities or have a convincing reason that they did not, and could not, have known. If they don't, they get fired, and then you go to the next supervisor person up the chain. You can fire everyone up to and including the President of the University.
The charge against Paterno was that he let Sandusky retire but did not report him to the authorities, even though he had some evidence that Sandusky was a pedophile. People can debate to what extent this lapse outweighs the many other good works he did in his career.
No informed person believes that JoePa was a pedophile or that he ever did anything to any kids in the shower.

Hey, I've got a great idea. Let's honor disgraced coach Paterno tomorrow. Nothing could go wring with that, right?
I don't think that's a great idea at all. I actually think that's quite a bad idea.

There is no "or." The rules are clear. Joe was just one level of very many sick choices at that school. IMO, not enough perp walks. Probably not enough penalties to do more though.
PSU missed a great opportunity, they were playing Temple. They could have had a two for one by honoring Bill Cosby too

There is sworn testimony he knew about it way back in 1976. Please don't say Paterno was anything but a POS-enabler of a serial child molester. What garbage you spew.

It was disgusting to watch those jackals go after an old man with lies and innuendo. A guy on his staff who Paterno fired was accused of child molestation and this was used to smear Joe Pat. By people who have done far worse.
For Chrissakes he was sheltering a guy that molested boys. Only fired the sick bustard to protect the image of the school and his own.
Bullspit. No evidence whatsoever that he was protecting that guy.

Joe Paterno was aware of sexual abuse by Jerry Sandusky as far back as 1976 and some assistant coaches knew in subsequent decades, according to alleged victims' depositions that were unsealed Tuesday.
John Doe 150 said in a 2014 deposition that he informed Paterno the day after a 1976 incident that Sandusky stuck his finger in the then-14-year-old boy's rectum while he showered. The man said in 2014 that other boys in a shower heard him yell that Sandusky had just touched him sexually.
He said he told several adults about it, then sought out Paterno.
"Is it accurate that Coach Paterno quickly said to you, 'I don't want to hear about any of that kind of stuff, I have a football season to worry about?'" a lawyer for Penn State's insurance carrier asked the man. "Specifically, yes," the man replied.
"I was shocked, disappointed, offended, I was insulted," John Doe 150 testified. "I said, is that all you're going to do? You're not going to do anything else?"
He said Paterno then "just walked away."
Paterno told a grand jury in 2011 that he first learned in 2001 of inappropriate sexual contact by Sandusky involving young boys.
"I do not know of anything else that Jerry would be involved in of that nature, no. I do not know of it. You did mention -- I think you said something about a rumor. It may have been discussed in my presence, something else about somebody. I don't know. I don't remember, and I could not honestly say I heard a rumor," Paterno testified.
Paterno told a reporter before he died in early 2012 -- just months after Sandusky's arrest -- that the first inkling he had that Sandusky might be abusing children occurred in 2001, though there are records that show high-ranking Penn State officials dealt with a complaint in 1998 by a mother that Sandusky had showered with her son.

Nike pulled Paterno name off the building.
Nike profits on child slave labor.

John Doe?

Nice changing of the topic. Nike pulling the name of the building suggests that Nike thought there was evidence Paterno knew and was protecting Sandusky.

Who is the bigger degenerate? Joepa for raping young boys or Cosby for drugging and raping women?
PSU has handled this incident as badly as they possibly could, going all the way back to not firing Paterno in 2007.
They had this whole incident in their rear-view (ok, pun intended) mirror... then they decided to sue their insurance company for capping their coverage of the liability pay-outs to Sandusky's victims. So, in an attempt to get an extra $25 million out of their insurer, they're probably racking up $15 million in legal fees, plus a couple of $Billion in renewed negative publicity. This John Doe testimony never sees the light of day if PSU does the right thing and just eats the settlement fees.
...and then decide to honor Paterno, after it becomes public knowledge that he protected Sandusky for 3+ decades. SMH. Remind me to never hire a PSU grad.
Only way to finish this is drag that old statue out from wherever they hid it and let the kids he raped attack it with baseball bats, regular folks can just spit on it. Maybe some could actually dig up Paterno's corpse and nail it to an upside down cross in front of the school.
No actual evidence that Paterno "knew" anything that he allegedly covered up.It's the usual witch-hunt and scapegoating by modern AcadeMedia.

There's plenty of evidence. plenty of witnesses. so whatever. your attitude and the looking the other way that the fans did this weekend is EXACTLY the problem.
Interesting comment about the statue. You nailed it. That's why they took down the statue! Because they can't protect it! Someone would go Bart Simpson Jebediah on it.
Plus, I'm calling it here. In a few years, they'll unveal the statue in a museum behind lock and key! Calling it! This event is a precursor to them rolling out the statue again.
Glad the ol bassard is dead. History shows he didn't live by the values he preached to his teams.
This whole thing is really bizarre from a PR standpoint. You've gotten past a huge scandal, and are starting to rebuild your image, and instead of saying "let's forget that whole thing ever happened and hope the public does too," you're like "hey, I have an idea: let's bring the Sandusky scandal front and center on the national stage again!"

It just shows how delusional the pedophiles and their enablers are, they'll stop at nothing to try and glorify their hero Joe "Pedo" Paterno. They'll probably have a ceremony where they award him some sort of posthumous lifetime achievement award from NAMBLA.
