Weird deal.
Weird deal.
I'm guessing Drake - if it doesn't work out, back to UT
Trouble probably. Investigation determine whether he stays or not.
This certainly is intriguing. Could be many things, including health and/or family.
Why does someone think he'd leave Texas to have the same job at Drake? Not your usual move.
Very fishy. I smell a rat. Texas two step. Something's rotten in Denmark.
Anybody ever consider that he may just be exhausted from his normal coaching duties combined with his role this past summer with the Olympics?
And for you alarmists out there...ZIKA!
Maybe it is just dehydration and pneumonia. It could happen to anyone

It happened to me on the way back from China and I was admitted to the hospital when I landed. No one seems to think I'm unfit for the upcoming season.
If there's no further information from any sources, reasons for the leave usually aren't good.
I had to laugh when I saw your name PoisonIVY. I was exhausted at the Olympics and am now back and have poison ivy and the flu simultaneously. I feel terrible. Since one of the symptoms of Zika is a rash, and I had poison ivy, I looked into Zika a bit.
As bad as Zika is for pregnant women and children the symptoms can be mild short term .4/5 people show no symptoms and for those that do, it's very similar to a flu.
But also the incubation period is believed to be 3-12 days so it's unlikely he's just now getting Zika from Rio.
It is unusual, but the story says that Mario "has requested and been granted an “indefinite†leave of absence by the university." He wasn't placed on leave. I'd assume that means it's not anything NCAA related and is related to the host of personal and/or family reasons someone might need to step away from their job.
If it were family reasons you'd they they would say so. They don't have to give details but it prevents all this wild speculation.
It's really none of your business, whatever it is. However, i hope it's legit reasoning (and not just that he wants a holiday). It's not fair that people can take leaves from an easy job (teaching/coaching) for no good reason. These jobs have astoundingly good benefits and schedule in the first place.
What are you smoking? Coaching at the university level requires extremely long hours and considering how few coaches there are, it's not that "easy" to be a good coach. (That point being made, I don't know whether this particular coach is "good" or not).

"he wants a holiday" ????
"easy job" ????
you are such a knucklehead
You don't take an indefinite leave of absence from a state job unless you have a legally approved reason. This job does not even come close to averaging 40 hours/week. There are two reasons for such a leave: A. medical B. performance.
The bigger question is, since it is indefinite, will his position be held for him or another hired?

Actually you're wrong because if they said "family reasons" then all the same clowns on this website would still be speculating wildly about what's being covered up. And meanwhile, in the real world, nobody gives a rat's a$$ about a track coach taking a leave of absence anyway.

Was he sniffing illicit panties?
It's definitely not performance. His record is very solid.
Ken Harnden to take over at Texas
By performance I mean perform job correctly... do not break rules of any kind for any reason... that kind of performance. You can be put on a leave of absence to correct misbehavior related to how you have performed your job.
The kind of performance you are talking about - conference points - results in being fired.
It's important to note that he requested the leave so he was not put on leave by the university.
