This seems like a very good time and leads the national times.

depends on how long and how difficult the course was.
When some of these kids run on confirmed 5k courses you can read a lot more into their future.
Look at the meet. Almost all entrants set a PR. Definitely a fast course. Worth 18:30 or so at Portland Meadows.
Brie Oakley, a senior from Grandview HS in CO, ran 16:44 at the Liberty Bell Invitational yesterday. She broke Jordyn Colter's record and probably ran a state all-time best. Liberty Bell is a very fast course, practically a road race, but, that is a legit time considering it's over a mile above sea level.

Definitely a good time under any circumstance, but XC courses can vary by over a minute. If you take the average 5 minute miler and put them on a flat compacted dirt course, they will usually run 17x.

It appears to be the 3rd meet of her HS career. She ran 14:41 (21st) and 15:09 (32nd) in her first two races, which were reported as 2 mile XC races.
She ran that time in the 2 mile race because 4a schools only run 2 miles. Hellen Roddy dominated the 5k race by like 45 seconds and she didn't go under 18 minutes. I know because i was there.
