So I saw on the front page that "Olympic 400 champ Shaunae Miller" has pulled out of the DL finale due to a contractual breakdown" between her agent and promoters.
If she ran the finale, she likely would win $50,000 as she'd win the jackpot and $40,000.
Why wouldn't she do that?
There's no way her appearance fee is greater than $40,000 so why would you sit out. Is it to try to set a precedent for other meets, "Hey we won't show up without some appearance fee."
I could see an agent saying, "Hey it's not fair that you are using the jackpot to force me to run without an appearance fee. I want a guarantee of $20,000 for running even if she doens't win the jackpot."
But it seems money wise (at least short term), they best bet would be to just show up. But since she's not showing up, I'm wondering what the game plan is. I guess establishing that you only run for an appearance fee would pay off in the long run.
