I suggest you also read malmo's description of his 8'05
also, here is his race record & you can see the criminal number of races he ran in '78 :
http://thegreatdistancerunners.de/HenryRono.htmlalso, there are races that defiy belief :
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=5042491&page=1dixon says he ran a 13'17 in lane 3 in a downpour of a race
that's ~ 16m extra per lap if he ran whole race in 3 or ~ for 12.5 laps an extra of 200m ->
13'17 for 5200m -> for 5000m ~ 12'46 !!!
in a downpour !!!
it's aso stated that he was 10 - 15 pounds overweight in '82 & that year he ran 27'29 to beat salazar
say he weighed 160 & was 10 - 15 pounds overweight when running 27'29
basic physics tells you his time if fighting weight of 145 or 150 his clocking wouda been
27'29 * ( 150 / 160 )^{1/3) = 26'53 !!
to
27'29 * ( 145 / 160 )^{1/3) = 26'35 !!!
if you don't believe physics, that's another issue but physics tells us, that in '82 if he was upto 15 pounds overweight when running 27'29, he couda expected at fighting weight
~ 26'35
& that's just from 15 pounds of liposucking blubber before gun went off & no account of the fitness detriment he musta had ballooning upto 15 pounds heavier
here is race description :
http://www.team-rono.com/rono-salazar-1982.phphe readily admits he wasn't in shape to run a race of distance as long as 10k :
however, it seems this was one of the few times in his life that he ran some semblance of even-pace indicating to us what he coud run at even pace instead of that nonsense fast-slow-fast-slow rubbish he usually ran
