If someone generally runs their easy runs at 8mins per mile say average 70% of max HR and manages to run a 3 hour marathon, what would you expect if later they could run 7:20mins per mile at 70% of max HR?
Logically to me it would malke sense that have improved by 40 seconds per mile, so could run a 2:43 marathon (0.66mins*26 faster), but I don't actually think that that is the case.
Does anyone have experience of what would be expected?
