When the body senses it is in danger, endorphins are released and adrenaline is pumped throughout the body giving your muscles high intensity short term fuel to bypass the tedious process of glycolysis while lasting longer than the build up of ATP your body has stored for short notice bursts of energy. In other words, you use running as a mean to defend your life. Idiot.
ok, if the murderer doesn't have a gun and isn't also a runner, this is a good option, but what if say the murderer were a kenyan marathoner? Or what if you were in close proximity and he was armed? With a few self defense lessons, even the skinniest guy can take down a muscle bound person who doesn't know what he is doing. I used to think running away was the best option, but there are too many variables, what if you reach a dead end and the murderer is only 200 meters behind you? What if you're already tired out from doing 18 of 20 miles on your planned long run the day after a race, and the murderer is fresh?
A couple weekends every couple years or so in self defense classes could give you an extra option in survival.
