It looks like Rowbury's not running the 5th Ave Mile this year. Does anyone know why not? Is she done for the year?

She's running a fall 'thon.
She might want to go on vacation who knows.
Money could easily be a factor.
The NYRR is having a bunch of US medallists there and with an appearance fee for them, there might not be any money left for an appearance fee for Shannon.

I hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense, especially since the women -- Coburn and Simpson -- are NB athletes.
I'd still think they could pay for "Five Medalists PLUS the American Record Holder," but again, the NB factor may be part of it.

She seems to be coming into form late. Perhaps the Brussels rumor is true? Looks like Hassan's lack of meldonium this year has made her mortal, incidentally.

Shannon preferred to stay on the track and run the 5000m in Brussels. It didn't make sense to fly to NYC then turn around and go back to Europe.

PS Not doubting you. Mostly, I'm curious as to how you know when the brojo's don't.
If she breaks the 5k AR and you could argue that she's the greatest American female middle distance runner of all time. She would own the AR in the 1500, 2mile and 5k. Also, has there any female before who's owned the AR in the 1500 and 5k at the same time?
She's worried that a diving finish which is pretty standard these days will shred her briefs since the asphalt of NYC is less forgiving than the tartan of European tracks.

Yes! I'm pretty sure Mary Decker Slaney held every American record from the 800 to 10,000 in 1985. In 1982, she set six world records, including the 5000.
Her last big AR, the 1500, stood until last year. She still has the AR in the mile, 2000 and 3000. Only one American, Jearl Miles-Clark has run a faster 800.
It was a different era, in more ways than one.
her krew hangs in s.f. man
She won a 1500 in a SB 3:57.86 at Weltklasse Thursday and is scheduled to run 5000 at Van Damme on the 9th.
Didn't Regina Jacobs have the American Record in both? Remember she won the 1500m and 5000m at the 2000 olympic trials and then withdrew from the Olympic Team after the test for EPO was available because she was "sick"? Then she was finally banned for doping a few years later. Lots of dopers/cheaters have run great in the 1500m-5000m range at the same time.
Monti knows stuff the Brojos don't because he's the guy who books athletes to come to the Fifth Avenue Mile. Or to not come, in the case of Shannon, who's won it multiple times before.

In other words, he's a source, the kind of guy journalists talk to so they know what he knows.

She nneds some form work. A mile of fast skipping is just the newest AlSal brainstorm.
