http://habs.sdf.org/trackbotCrazy Tergat set his mile, 2k, and 3k pr's on the same day!! That's an awesome triple!!!
All in the same race? Is that possible?
Lagat is not as unique as the others, but he did have world titles at 3 different distances. 1500 and 5k at 2007, and 3k indoor twice. Also, a 3:26 pr , Kenyan record and number 2 all time is pretty sick. Many American records, lots of Melrose titles.

Unfortunally this database is not very complete. Otherwise you could have seen that Tergat in fact has done a quintuple!

Actually Lagat is as unique as anyone, having competed in Olympics in 2000 and 2016. Also in having run 13:06 at age 41. That is unique.

Yes, the "+" indicates that the PR was an en-route split. So the mile and 2K were en route for his 7:28 3K.

Not an easy decision between Tergat and Kipchoge, but I think I would go for Kipchoge, since Tergat never in has career was really dominant, which Kipchoge at the moment is.
I beg to differ, said88. Tergat was dominant in cross country for years.

Surprised no one else brought this up yet! Still would go with Kipchoge's career if i had to pick one for myself. Greatest all time Kenyan runner? Hard to pick out of the 10+ list of names that have been said but I would argue he surely has one of the longest, most consistent, and greatest range career of all Kenyan runners. Lagat has shown the consistency and long career but no where near in terms of range.
It's certainly not Tergat.
Have to talk about Moses Kiptanui
3 time World Champion plus a WC Silver and an Olympic Silver
Held the world record in the open 3000, steeple and the 5000.
First steeple under 8:00
He broke Henry Rono's steeple record, Aouita's 3000 record and Gebreselassie's 5000 record.

Not really.
He was wonderful, one of the best ever, but Rudisha has two Olympic titles and multiple world records. The only Kenyan athlete that would attract a near consensus that they are or were the greatest ever in their event from any nation.

But there are also other names which should be considered: Kipchoge Keino, David Rudisha, Moses Kiptanui, Ezekiel Kemboi... really not easy to decide.
Eliud Kipchoge should be in the top 10 all-time now, definitely ahead of Mo Farah. Much better PBs in the 3000m, 5000m, Marathon, also in the Half-Marathon. Almost equal in the 10000m. Farah's 4 doubles are also great, for sure, but his career record otherwise really is too weak. Without Kenenisa Bekele (arguably Nr. 2 distance runner ever, against he had to compete during Bekele's prime)), Kipchoge also would have more titles.
Isn't Bekele alongside Geb as arguably the No. 1 distance runner ever?
I won't argue with Rudisha.
But versatility counts when talking about best overall runner.

Ben Jipcho is massively underrated historically.
Bump.
