Today we had to run 8 miles after a 3 mile race yesterday. Has anyone ever done this before? It's really hard. I started walking at mile 4 bc i was tired and the coach got mad. What gives?

You dumb dumb kid.
I have done this before. Its really tough.
PHSYC thats like everyones training, long run after race day, thats how life works dude get used to it
You're not dumb. You're just not as experienced as your coach. Doing a long run the day after a race can be difficult - just like any other workout. It's not even September yet. You'll be glad you did workouts like this when you get to October.

Doesn't he understand what recovery is. You need RECOVERY after races. It's just as important as running. He even asked some kids to double today. How can they recover?
8 miles is recovery, Puss.

Oh no! A bunch of poor entitled brats have to put in some work! How could they possibility recover?? Try doing a workout consisting of 10 miles in the morning followed by a 12 mile easy( yes easy, not long) run in the afternoon and run 110 miles per week without a rest day, ever. Guess what? I still recovered. I spent the other 22 hours that day recovering, the 92% of my day I wasn't running. Stop being a baby.

Look, another troll.
Yes, I have. After a half marathon race I drove home then did a 13 mile recovery run. I don't know why you would have to walk after only 4 miles.
Depending on your mileage a long run of 8 miles shouldn't be impossible and should really help you come October.
I'd say as long as you have built up to an 8 mile lr. Also make sure you run this at a recovery pace, I e., slow enough for you to actually recover, this pace should be slower than your easy pace.
Tell your mom. She will coddle you and rub your feet.
If you walked after 4 miles, you went out too fast. Long runs after a race should be done at a leisurely pace. It will feel awkward during 20/30 min, then you should feel that your legs are a bit tired but OK.

Young one, you have lots to learn. Your coach is trying to make an athlete out of your spoiled ass.

how is it spoiled to ask the coach not to break my body. I dont want a stresssss fracture. thats almost 11 miles in 2 days, thats 37 mpw, i usually do 25. Thats too much
Good trolling. 5/10
1) 37 mpw is not too much, unless you are a freshman who just started running.
2) Most teams do long runs the day after a Saturday race. My team does and so does every other team in our league, as far as I know.
3) You can start the long run much slower than you usually do. After a mile or two, your legs should feel decent.
4) You probably have a recovery day or shorter run on Monday, correct?
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these

Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
