I'd say it looks like Rupp isn't as far ahead of Ward as everyone would have guessed, but we dont really know what affect that surge between 30-35k took out of Rupp nor the 10k 8 days earlier nor the 10k training for the last several years.
We also dont know what went 'wrong' for Ward. Maybe this was a great day, maybe it wasnt. Maybe he has a lot more in him and can push the envelope a bit further?
So far it looks like Rupp is ~1-2 mins faster than Ward in a marathon. We have two data points.
Great job Ward.
I also think Meb has another 2:10 in him or similar and is about in the same league [or faster] still. Puskedra who knows?
Great runs all around. Doesn't seem like Rupp is going to challenge Hall's AR Marathon anytime soon. Personally I wish he'd focus on the 10k, but obviously now we know he's 'got it' as far as being a legit marathon threat
