This is idiotic. You can talk in any context.
I know you're a runner and from your post basically autistic, but think a little. Think of averages. Look at runners on the street/trails. Presumably the run will be at something from 6-9 minutes/mile, most likely around 8.
If the possibility of a slow run is a problem for you, don't run as a date with someone who's speed you don't know, genius. As another example, the possibility of conversing with a moron is unacceptable to me, so I would not go on a date during which you could talk much.
Anyway, a real man would have specified the date himself, not given three options (??!), so you already know he's a loser. Have fun!
