A good coach and a terrible human being. The latter carries more weight with me, and I won't miss him.

RE: Alberto Salazar and his battles at U of Oregon with Jeff Nelson.
http://articles.latimes.com/1990-08-11/sports/sp-308_1_state-title
The above is a three-page article.
A few quotes:
"Nelson soon discovered the camaraderie that had existed among his teammates at Burbank was nowhere to be found at Oregon."
"Nelson had a major altercation with Salazar because he--a freshman--had the audacity to outkick the senior at the end of a workout."
" "That just wasn't done up there," Kemp chuckled. "The freshmen were supposed to be cannon fodder for the stars up there, and that went against everything Jeff knew. He felt that you always gave your best." "
"You weren't expected to get injured up there, and if you did, you were expected to run through it," Nelson said. "Their attitude was, 'If it hurts, just take more aspirin.' "
"Eventually, Nelson had to stop running for several weeks. Although the injury developed into a stress fracture, Oregon Coach Bill Dellinger still expected him to run in the Pacific 10 championships in May."
" "That was kind of the final straw," Nelson said. "I told them that I was in no condition to race--I was barely starting to run again--but their attitude was, 'Look, you're on a full ride here, and we're going to get our money's worth out of you. . . .' "

You sure are petty and vindictive.
Not only did Salazar coach Browne, but he set him up in Portland with Nike. Also, what many forget is that it was Salazar who convinced Nike to bring Schumacher out to Portland to start another group. Vastly more than any other individual, Salazar is responsible for the renaissance in American distance running.

You're kidding right?
American medals produced by US coaches at the 2016 Olympics.
Mark Wetmore - 2
Alberto Salazar - 2
Jerry Schumacher - 1
Lee LaBadie - 1
Dan Browne - 1

I'm sure at times he is. There have been plenty enough public displays of his character to verify that he is a poor example of a human being, though.
I'll always kind of wonder what would have happened if Hall was coached by Salazar
how many years ago was that? no one gives an f...
Abusive personalities do not change with time. Salazar has had multiple meltdowns in recent years. They go back to his days at Oregon, and go back many years before that.

Yeah, but why expect the hate-filled, jealous but "totally pure" BroJos to acknowledge reality. They hate, Nike, NOP, Oregon and with very few exceptions will take every opportunity to rip on them. It could be as insignificant as questioning whether Eugene cares about Track & Field because during XC Nationals the website for the hometown paper, The RegisterGuard, had coverage of a football game highlighted and not (at that very moment) acknowledgement of King Ches' title (never mind that there were multiple stories during the week leading up to XC Champs online & in print and that that very day Cheserek WAS featured on the homepage and on the front page of the Sunday sports section - but don't you get it - Eugene doesn't really love track).
Or it can be something major like all the unfounded doping allegations from Goucher/Magness and the absolutely one-sided coverage by the BroJos on that.
Salazar coached atheletes won 4 Gold Medals. What other distance coach's athletes achieved that???
For Christsake, Rupp gets a Bronze Medal in his second marathon ever and you can barely find mention of it on LosersRant.com homepage. I guarantee you had that been a non-Nike athlete it would have been plastered all of this biased website.
correction by this idiot - Salazar athlete's won 3 golds.

The article. One somewhat negative line about Salazar that might have happened on 200 campuses that year (competition among teammates). But the coaching approach was that of Bill Dellinger and hard to pin on Al.
(Full disclosure: I don't work for Nike and my only connection was running at the same time in HS nearby and seeing him run a superb HS freshman 2 mile at the MA state meet after our top runner, state champ that year, pointed him out as a future superstar.)

200 errant and abusive personalities. Salazar is not alone with his personality disorder.

Good point. And it we take it down to 6th place, there was some serious depth at the top level.

Yes Mo still counts...for now.
+100
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who feels this way.
The only reason I come back to LRC, despite their obvious and blinding bias, is because they typically do a good job with their analysis pre- and post-race.
What I'll never understand is how they celebrate African runners when, to me, the Africans are at least as suspect as NOP. In fact, I think they're WAY more suspect.
I have my doubts about NOP, but I'll bet they're cleaner than the Russians, the Africans, etc. The marathon today was a perfect example. I'll bet Rupp is cleaner than the Gold and Silver medalists in front of him.

what gold medal did rupp win?
Check your math Robert, or just deny that Salazar coaches runners.
All of your efforts are focused on provoking a fight against Nike.
Why is that ?
Without Nike support, US track and field is in the doldrums.
Who do you think would fund the programs Oieselle ????
Ha.
Grow up.

If true, I would bet the real story is that Nike is pushing Salazar in that direction. He's just not cut out to coach any large volume of athletes and establish trust with all of them. Salazar will likely be vindicated with the doping allegations. But you can't ignore the basic fact that so many athletes and trainers left NOP on negative terms. That's got to be unacceptable to Nike.
Nike doesn't care at all as long as they sell lots of shoes.

ROJO: your killing me .... Dan Browne? You really think he coaches Chelimo? C'mon Man!
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
