It would seem like a reasonable possibility, yes? Kipchoge is only one or two years older, but has far more marathons under his belt and may not be motivated to be doing this for another four years. I can't think of anyone else in the world who would be a prohibitive favorite over Rupp, especially with four more years of marathon-specific training under his belt.
It was a great run by Galen no doubt. Man was I pulling for him to reel in second place and get silver. Exciting race to watch in the last bit and an overall AWESOME mid d and distance performance all around for the US!

Hope so!

After bronze there's no second guessing Salazar.
Can't wait to see Rupp run a major marathon like New York.
Rupp was 8 seconds back and gassed. No 10k = silver.
But 5th and 3rd is pretty damn good.

No love for rupp on twitter. May distance runners (Flanagan, Goucher etc) rush to congratulate Ward and Meb. Very few have congratulated Galen.
Is Rupp even on Twitter?
If I recall correctly, Frank Shorter said that running the two 10Ks in 1972 (qualifying round, then fifth in the final in US record) helped sharpen him for his marathon win. I'll bet Al Sal was aware of that.
If that was the case, why didn't Frank do the same in 1976?

Shorter was injured in 1976 so he knew he couldn't do both.

Yes, but he never logs on anymore.
His main tech thing is texting his wife. Understandable.
He's focused on family. Two kids, 3rd one coming.
Watch Goucher's post trials interview for the answer to this question.

They ought to be ashamed. They have no evidence. Poor sportsmanship!!!

Rupp did a great job and overall the US has had its best distance games in recent memory (if not ever?)
+1. Some day this may be our "good ol' days"!
And 2 Americans in top 10 in marathon. what was it ? 20 years ago we couldnt even field a full team because enough guys couldnt hit the standard. Great stuff.
Super impressed by Rupp. Just a phenomenal run by him. To be on the heels of Lilesa. Unbelievable. Kipchoge once again shows he on a whole other level.

Rupp couldn't be bothered to even give Ward a hi 5 as he finished 6th. He watched him finish then went to talk to the Nike CEO.
So don't feel bad for the Rupper. He kind of brings it on himself.

Ward ignored him at the Olympic Trials. You think Rupp is going to chase Ward, looking for his approval? Maybe Rupp has enough dignity.

Jared was a little to close for comfort, Nike doesnt like Saucony getting an American top 6 mens Marathon finish spreads out the glory.
Cant blame Galen for not giving props to Ward, there is probably a reduction in his contract if he gives credit to non-Nike athletes.
Wearing the hat definitely cost Rupp the Silver medal. Your head is wear you can shed much heat, and a hat on a cloudy and rainy day increases head temperature and body temperature. Same thing happened to Meb in Athens.

Why should he be so buddy-buddy with people who for all we know sh*t on him like everyone else?
