In my opinion, 2:00 is not a gold standard that should guarantee a woman passage to the 800m final. It should barely get you in the games.
On what basis are you establishing this arbitrary standard? For the record, not a single woman before 1971 had ever run below two minutes.
Then came steroids with their attendant higher testosterone levels, and they were off to the races...

Agree. She just comes off as very bitter and entitled. Caster, Francine and Margaret aren't breaking any rules and didn't take anything artificial to be the way they are.

What are the chances the W800 XX women will stage a protest in the WC next year? It is either that, or watch their event descend into the mire of gender politics. Lelisa has risked his life for his beliefs; will women risk their careers (although it isn't a risk if their careers are inevitably usurped by imposters)?
Women 800m runners might as well stage a protest. Let the XY runners in their race run 200m or a lap or similar, and then start the womens' race. The womens' 800m is a farce just now and there isn't any point in women racing at the top level in it. The comments about female runners not being good enough are disgusting. At this race, we will end up with men running womens' races and women having to run in the Paralympics because of their perceived "inferior" phenotype and genotype.
meanwhile the usual mix of uninformed and sensible on the internet, with some people believing Semenya etc are half woman/half man instead of men with undescended testicles.

I'm not disputing the opinion that Sharp is a jerk but here are the facts:
Semenya’s best 2015 time before the IAAF rule was lifted: 2:04.19. Her best since: 1:55.28.
The same goes for the silver and bronze medalists Saturday, who have not been definitively identified as intersex but who share many of the same physical characteristics as Semenya. And time progressions. Niyonsaba went from 2:05.45 to 1:56.24, Wambui from 2:01.32 to 1:56.89.

WOW. Lynsey, how did you get that huge man's apple in your throat? Looks like a snake.

Love wins by calling someone names? Why can't you respect someone else's opinion. Oh, I forgot, that's not how twitter works. I'll take minority opinion as being right over the twitter mob.

Lots of reasons really. Women closing 1500m races in sub 2 minutes easily is one. The conversion from the men's 1500m to 800m based upon WRs is about 2.04. The same conversion applied to Dibaba's record gives the equivalent women's 800m at 1:52.7. I understand not all records are equal but it is food for thought. Dibaba was reportedly finishing sessions with 1:59 800m reps.
If you think about it objectively, forget all you have been told, you will realise 2:00 is about 1:46. Women's sport is just weaker in depth and talent.
The uk rankings has the top 10 target as 1:47.5 for men and 2:01.5 for women. They get it. That's based on statistical data.
The Olympics SHOULD be won in 1:55. And a woman should be able to do that. We need more properly quick girls, 51/52 second runners, taking on the 800m. We just don't have that. Or we need girls who can run 3:55 taking on the 800m.
Surely it is plain to anyone that 49.4 and 3:55 are so much better than 1:57.
Someone else was confused and read my statements as "Semenya should be allowed to compete because the women's 800m is weak". I am sure the majority of posters will realise that is, of course, extremely off the mark.

Not in the women's 800 it didn't, only hateful transgenered men.

Lynsey Sharp is a hero and great example to all real women everywhere.
The 3 misogynist men who ran in the women's 800 meters should be sourly ashamed of themselves, and you should go bury your head in the sand, whoops it already is. Are you really a Kenyan?

You've already admitted he's a man.
What you don't seem to get is that women's events are for real women, not men.
What are you even talking about. The lack of intelligent posters on this forum is a joke.
Good post. Many 51-52 second women and 45-46 second men are just scraping into national teams only to be dumped out in the heats or semis when they could up the mileage and be superstars in the 800m.
Wambui would have been destroyed by any 52/1:56 woman but all 52 second athletes are on national relay squads, except for the US and Jamaica.
In the UK 52 seconds is considered 'good'. In the US it barely earns a trials invite. Surely the US must have a glut of suitable 400m athletes to take a shot at 800m glory?

Caster isn't on trial. Some idiots are attacking her for some reason. But she isn't in violation of the rules. I think most are in agreement that she won this race completely on the level. The question is what is the point of male and female categories in athletics and if they make any sense anymore in a world that understands more and more about genetics and hormones and whatever else and if something should be done.
I don't know much about the CAS arbitration but know enough about the world to know the arbitration panel heard two biased presentations and probably had no real understanding of the issues and made a ruling (saying people shouldn't have to take hormone therapy) that makes sense regardless of anything to do with athletics. People shouldn't be forced to lower their testosterone just like they shouldn't be forced to raise it (which would be a consequence of allowing peds). Their ruling did not have anything to do with whether or not sexual classifications in athletics need definitions or expansions or reductions
