I have trolled these boards for 20 years and have never gone viral like that. I haven't seen anyone upset about it other than the original troll.
I have been on here for nearly as long. I think 2001 was when I started a daily habit... Believe it or not, I used to skip the boards and just read the front page. Not it is the opposite. But I digress...
I think we have seen LRC get some media attention lately. I was actually cited in a PhD thesis, along with about 30 other LRC posters. That was hilarious. It is scary when you think about it, because a lot of the drama that gets picked up by the media is probably just people trolling, and then I do believe that it truly affects people's beliefs once they hear it spewed by the media.
I have believed this for a long time, and it really came into effect during the Starbucks cup fiasco around Christmas. I think one troll said something and then everyone came out against it, but there was never really a bunch of people upset about the cups, just people who were upset about the theoretical people who were upset.... You know? It's a huge cycle of bullshit that is actually influencing people's thoughts in our country.
Tail wagging the dog. The ultimate troll.
