Are you sure that's the infraction. I think it's coming into this water jump(2nd). Kemboi goes inside the cones & passes the french guy on the inside.

The fact that we can't actually nail down the infraction tells you all we need to know.
This should be the relevant video. You can slow it down on gfycat.

You are right, if we cannot see it from a TV feed it never happened.

There were too many infractions to pin down.
That is hard to see. He passed a few on the inside and then to one step inside the cones after the jump. It could be that his left foot planted inside a few times befor the jump. He definitely gained ground in that short time.

We have an article up now blasting the decision by the French to protest and for the IAAF for upholding the protest:

Another way to look at it: IAAF is upholding the letter of the rule and setting a precedent for zero tolerance in rule breaking.
I could go either way on this to be honest. It looks from the still like there might have been some jostling along the way.
But the photo certainly shows that Kemboi stepped inside the line.
Curious: what if Kemboi had won and Jager/US had been second and protested and won?

haha, well played.
no seriously - the IAAF article says:
The defending champion, who has won gold or silver at all but one major championship since 2003, slowed almost to a gentle jog from 50 metres out but crossed the line in third place. A protest was presented by the French team, claiming that Kemboi had stepped outside the track on the curve after clearing the water jump.
All of our best views suggest that brojos have the correct picture of the infraction. I do not think it warrants a DQ because of the traffic and result of the race.

You can't see jack on that video.
the article for the quote above:
the spam filter wouldn't let me add it earlier. IAAF articles are pretty worthless.
This is not the infarct and your biased reporting is unjustified. The infarct was that he did not land in or beyond the water jump..... he side stepped it landing on the inner portion of the track, thus deviating a major obstacle of said competition. A flag was raised at the jump and alternative views show him landing on the inner portion of the track, not the picture you've chosen as the infarct.I honestly don't care one way or another about either of these two runners but the rules are the rules and I don't understand how you can blame the french camp for protesting it. If it was BS the IAAF wouldn't have upheld it. If he had won and Jager moved up a spot you would say "it is what it is, nice break for jager"... but it's someone you don't like so you paint your own ugly story. You guys troll Mekhissi for celebrating and taking his jersey off while Kemboi does literally the same thing, even running out into lane 7 to taunt his competitors. Kemboi celebrates shirtless with pelvic thrusts and everyone celebrates it as a form of cultural expression but Mekhissi gets excited because he realizes he may have still won a medal and he's an a-hole. Give me a break. At least call it like it is. I'm going back to Flotrack.

Took me a few times to rewatch it to realise what's going on, but one can see Kemboi passing everybody on the inside.
Question is, how a man like Kemboi with all his experience in global championships and meets could make such a mistake? Amateurish somehow.
After the jump looks like an incidental step over
If it is limited to the step in the photo.
I hate to say it but this is the epitome of Kemboi going home devatstated...
Fluck the frenchies!

Yep, which means every time there's a break at the start in a middle/distance event, which we've had a couple already, the breaking athlete/s should be disqualified.
What the hell is an infarct? Do you mean infraction?
This is letter v. spirit of the law. I doubt Kemboi obtained any advantage for this one misstep, but once it was called to attention, the race observers really had no choice. Having said that, it is a crappy way for the French runner to win third place. Nothing to be proud of.

Yet falsely accusing people of drugs is okay.
So in summary, Kemboi cuts inside the cones coming into the 2nd water jump, passes the french guy on inside, is squeezed tight to the inside of the barrier, takes the barrier, lands on inside track(not water), is still in tight on inside and step inside coming out of the pit also.
I'm sure it didn't effect the results but that's a lot of infractions in the span of 50m & not a wise move by a veteran competitor.
Not sure if this is in this thick MB thread already, but Shawn Crawford gave his inherited Beijing 2008 silver to the original silver winner (Churandy Martina) after a double DQ for lane faults took him from 4th to 2nd. It included a note about Martina deserving it. Frenchie could learn something from that.
