The Brazilian government, which is known to be incredibly corrupt, is simply trying to discredit Lochte's story so it doesn't hurt their tourism industry any further. Really too late for that though, the truth is out about their crime ridden country and there is no getting that genie back in the bottle.
More likely, based on the happy faces, is they blew wads of hundreds of dollars on hookers. A lot more than they intended to. Ergo, the happy smiles.
Yeah, because a grown man, who is also single based on his own statements to a national news publication two days prior, has to lie to hide that he did something perfectly legal.
So, exactly how much did Brazil's pr firm pay you to get on here and post your inane comments? Get out of here shill.

Getting a prostitute is illegal in the US. You can be jailed in the US for sleeping with a prostitute in a different country, even if it is legal in that country. US laws have jurisdiction everywhere.

Probably if he used US currency there would be some angle on this.
It's actually not that uncommon for business dealings in South American countries to be in US dollars rather than local currency.
Horse manure. I watched the video. Those are metal detectors. They aren't xray scanners. Xray scanners are huge.
If that's the claim, I'm 100% believe Ryan no.
Also, bring more to the discussion when your source isn't a tabloid.

I have to assume you are trolling as you couldn't possibly be that stupid.

Prostitution is legislated at the state level, not the federal level. There is no "US law" against having sex with a prostitute.

Actually, no. Try again, shill.
Even if that were the case, it still doesn't explain why he would lie about a robbery. If he visited a brothel and didn't want people to know about it he could have just, I don't know, not told people he went to a brothel. The exchange would probably go something like this:
Random Olympian/person/Lochte's mom, friend or whatever: You have a good time last night now that you're done competing?
Lochte: hell yeah! I partied all night last night!

There is effectively a "US law" against prostitution since only in certain parts of Nevada is it legal. It is illegal everywhere else:
Currently, Nevada is the only U.S. jurisdiction to allow legal prostitution - in the form of regulated brothels - the terms of which are stipulated in the Nevada Revised Statutes.

Right, but how do you propose that these state laws be applied to something that happened in another country?
Oh, so weren't trolling and you are that stupid. Please stay in school ... you are going to need it. I will explain this to you once .. so read it slow and mouth the words if you need to. The Nevada revised statutes provides for legal prostitution in Nevada. Individual counties may opt out and not allow it. This does not make an "effective US law" - which there is no such thing. And no, the US has no jurisdiction in other countries to prosecute offenses that occurred in another country - legal or not in that country. I hope you are in high school or you have a long road ahead.

How do you think he paid for all the prostitutes? Oh, that's right, with an American Visa or MasterCard. Is that illegal since those cards are issued from American banks? You bet.
What better way to cover up illegal American activity than to say you got robbed and don't have your credit cards anymore and it wasn't you that charged $2000 on your credit card to Rio Gay Brothers LLC?

Because those American swimmers used American credit cards issued by American banks to pay for illegal prostitutes.

Except if he used the US federal banking system in making the monetary transaction (see FIFA). Then they might get him under some RICO-like law.
Why does America have the ability to do this sort of thing? (Economist)
The arm of American law is famously long. The country’s law enforcers claim the right to go after anyone using dollars, its banking system or its territory to plan or conduct an illegal act.

You clearly have no idea about US jurisdiction laws. Look up the case of USA vs. Kim Dotcom to see that US jurisdiction applies everywhere.
Please stop ! OMFG - are you really high or are you that stupid to make this nonsense up ? VISA is the official sponsor of the Olympics and prostitution is legal in Brazil. The two go hand in hand !
Good point, it's state law that's relevant, so if the credit cards were issued from a bank in Nevada, they'd probably be in a better position.

Visa didn't issue the American swimmers their credit cards. It was American banks that did that. Look at your credit card, it has your bank's name and branding on it.
So, you're not even smart enough to tell when someone is joking. Stay in school, girl.

If that was your idea of a joke, you would love in poverty as a comedian.
