Good lord, these 800m prelims are FAST
Wilson just set a SB in the heats..Bishop just ran 1:58.
These 800 heats are flying. I wonder if the women are stepping it up in the face of adversity.
Eaton needs 8.10 to get back on WR pace
Women's 800 m heats have been very fast. Highly suspicious. Luckily the future winner is one of the least-likely-to-be-doping people in the games.
What happened to the Kenyan Kenyans in that 5000m qualifying? That is unheard of. Koech has run 12:49, I think, or close to that at "18" and then Paul Chelimo, a new American citizen from Kenya, runs what might be a pr or season best to win his heat in 13:19? Great job from Chelimo. I hope he has plenty left for the final, same with Lagat.

No Kenyans in the 5000 final, no USA medallists in the 110 hurdles. What can happen next no Jamaican relay medals?
Or the US mens 4 x 1 get the baton around the track and not get DQ'd

What do you mean "the face of adversity?" What adversity are these athletes facing other than routine qualifying rounds? Are you making this more melodramatic than necessary?

Do we know if he's attempting a WR or is that just assumed? Honestly don't know.

Would like to know too.
I agree with the comment about no Kenyans making the 5k final. It is inexplicable to me. Without risk of exaggeration, Kenya likely has 20 men eminently capable of making the Olympic final. One must question their selection processes, even if there is a rational explanation for the performances today.
Sum's coach is in jail?? Not as fast, so maybe Kate Grace is out.
Grace ran sub 2 minutes, yet only 7th fastest time qualifier. 8 will advance and still three heats to go.

Um, you know that big controversy about competing against women with high and now unregulated levels of testosterone? The issue that has completely dominated discussion of the 800 this year? The topic that turns letsrunners into angry, bigoted slimeballs (well, slightly more than usual) at a moment's notice.
That adversity.
Why/how does he specifically need to attempt a WR? What difference would it make in the first day?
