The rules are what they are and as she said, her legs were giving out so this was her only option.

If I were writing the rule book tomorrow I would make it your hips. They are at the center of your body (give or take) and it allows someone to dive with know huge advantage and some won't be penalized for having a long back kick or long legs of you did the entire body.

Leaning is fine but I think you should have to stay on your feet. Diving is bush league.

That sounds more like ignorance than controversy.

An american loses a race and the rules need to be changed? How about change the rules to the first american to cross the line is the winner.

Not is the lower rib cage is used as the determining point rather than the upper chest around the sternum. You could still lean but a significant part of your body needs to be at the finish line.

The Miller finish makes it obvious the rule needs to be adjusted to avoid prone finishes.

It wasn't so much the dive it was that most on Miller's body was still behind the finish line as Felix crossed.

The winning time shown on the finish line clock was 49.51 not 49.44. Felix's time was noted, not Miller's time.

Miller actually said she blacked out. She does clearly recall the end of the race.

It has nothing to do with American. It has to do with the photo of the finish. One runner crossing the line with another flat on the ground with more than 1/2 of their body yet to slide across.
