Hey, Murph goes gold if the Kenyan and Algerian test positive.....

He's not on anything. His progression is from being a late bloomer in the sport and not knowing how good he actually was. The kid has nasty talent, Symmonds esque strength (or better) with 45sec splitting ability.
^This.
I agree that the progression is suspicious, because 3 years ago he was a 1:56/4:16 high school senior. However, he was doing it on sh*t training and 20-30 miles a week. Maybe all it took was three years of perfect diet, progressively add higher mileage and speedwork, and the college athletics system for him to tap into all that hidden ability,
By 2025, Clayton Murphy will have won double gold 800/1500 in a global championship.
If he doesn't test positive that is...

Plus, a rookie mistakes almost cost him advancing race in the first round, a very smart race in the semis, and a brilliant, perfect race in the finals. Sure didn't take him long to learn the ropes at the highest level.
You got to love Clayton! His ability to learn and correct his mistakes so fast makes me think America has finally found a man who should challenge Rudisha's world record. I mean look at his ability in such a short period to jump from 1:44 to 1:42 without a "touchdown" at 1:43! That is absolutely genius and only one or two other people have ever been able to achieve the feat in the history of the 800m. Interesting he mentioned during the interview that if it takes 1:42 to medal he would have to do exactly that. Shows just how mentally he was prepared for anything!
“If it takes 1:42 to medal, I’ve gotta run 1:42,†Murphy said. “I think I’m in the best shape of my life. If that’s what it has to be to medal, then I’m ready for it.â€
http://www.letsrun.com/news/2016/08/usa-usa-beris-berian-clayton-murphy-advance-mens-800-final/He ran 4:16 as a junior. As a senior he ran 4:11 to beat Cory Glines at the State meet. Looks like Glines is running the 10k for Northern Arizona and ran 29:11 in the spring.
Murphy ran 1:54.19 at the regional meet his senior year after a 4:21 1,600. In the district meet, he ran 1:57 beating 2nd place by 12 seconds!
Inspiring performance out of nowhere. Boris? Boris who?

Does 1:42 indicate a possible 3:30 or sub 3:30 in a 1500 after the olympics? Assuming he doesn't drink himself to death; which is what I would do. But that's why I'm on the couch posting anonymously and not in Rio.
That's vicious stereotyping. Not all Irish drink themselves to death. Only about 30%.

I won BROZE the other day too. It wasn't shiny but we partied for a while to celebrate Rupp's 5th place.
I love that quote.
Classic, now legendary, All American Moxy quote.
And he backed it up.

It's not often a peaking athlete gets to chase a guy who's run under 1:41. lol
Other then the first round, he looked awesome, perfect position and ran strong.
The future is very strong in US middle distance.

Murphy will be a silver medalist once Makhloufi gets his medal revoked for doping once again
Hell, after what Rudisha's former coach (brother O'Connell) said, it's more likely Rudisha has been spiking the EPO gravy.

Those two are likely doping but officials will let them get away with it, especially Rudisha.

Murphy didn't run 4:11. He didn't break 4:13 in HS.
Tons of raw speed, yet excellent strength. He ran essentially like I thought would be best, keeping in contact with the leaders--though 23.9 was obviously pretty out of control where 24.6 would have put him still in good shape to catch the leaders with closer to even splits after 600m, and not wasting energy with unnecessary moves, staying in lane one and then closing very well. He is obviously the present and the future of middle distance running for the U.S. but with Berian and Brazier, he'll have plenty of competition for the foreseeable future. I would not be surprised to see Brazier run 1:41 next year. But Murphy's confidence was certainly not misplaced. He was totally unperturbed by having only a 1:44.76 pr coming into this.

You guys and your diet obsession. It's less important than you think. Just don't overdo it with anything. Also with the healthy stuffz and supplements in particular. It's not rocket surgery.
What might he have got if he had dived?
Two completely different races. The final was fast from the word go; "tactics2 evolved into a simple matter of judging how far you should lay off the ridiculous early pace set by the other Kenyan. A fast pace means more room to move whenever you want. In the home straight Murphy had more left than Bosse who had raced for gold, trying to hold Rudisha down the back straight and final bend. Fast paced races may be physically more demanding than slower ones but tactically, psychologically they are easier.
Anyhow, great race, what Olympics are meant to be all about! Rudisha ran a great race in every way!

ndururi has also done it :
