I'm not saying he's clean or not but if every college freshman running 1:50 could take some PEDS and run 1:42 high in two years, there would be a shitload or 1:42 high guys right now.
this is a pretty bad argument.

Imagine what he can do for 1500m!!
no there wouldn't wrote:

Terrible argument. Perhaps those 1:50 college freshmen are already on the hot sauce. And even if they were clean before and jumped on steroids, everyone responds differently. Just look at bodybuilding. Two guys can take the same drugs but respond vastly different to them.

sub-1:43 guy now, also (1:42.93)
Totally skipped the 143s!
Zola Budd ran sub-15:00 for 5k, sub-4:20 for the mile, and sub-4 for 1500 before she was 20 years old. No hint of PED's. I'm more suspicious of people who suddenly drop times mid or late in their careers,
Some people are just freaking talented, you know?
Way to go Murphy!
a Bronze in the 800m and a bronze in the Women's Steeple that is not a bad day for the USA.
Jager could podium still... not sure about Centro or Rupp. Both seem like a long shot.
Bronze for Murphy in his first Olympics in a PR of 1:43!!
is murphy likely on something? his progression is just unreal. either way my hats off to him, do you guys think he is really clean?
what would someone even take that would allow them to make this amazing of a drop in time continously over and over like this.
congrats to the bronze medalist
He's not on anything. His progression is from being a late bloomer in the sport and not knowing how good he actually was. The kid has nasty talent, Symmonds esque strength (or better) with 45sec splitting ability.
I remember 3 years ago running at the local metro park and he asked me if I wanted to run with him and the rest of the boys. He was talking about one day he had dreams of going to nationals. A lot of people doubted him simply because of the MAC conference but sheesh he proved them wrong. He's a effing bronze medalist now. Oh yeah, Akron's distance coach is a stud. Not to mention he's a former sub 4 miler

Agreed. Congrats to Murphy. Lots of excitement here rooting on my couch. His kick in the final 100 was the essence of MD talent.

Ahh. There are none so blind as those who will not see.You guys could at least be consistent. How about the people who have broken world records at this meet? Also late bloomers who did not know how good they were? You don't think they also have nasty talent?
What a performance!
Boris who?
Plus, a rookie mistakes almost cost him advancing race in the first round, a very smart race in the semis, and a brilliant, perfect race in the finals. Sure didn't take him long to learn the ropes at the highest level.
Let's get Murphy to look at the 2020 schedule and work towards a Snell-like double 800/1500.
Also, this makes me even more optimistic that Centro can medal/win, looking at their 25 point last 200 contest to finish that 1K race a scant several days back.
Murphy will be a silver medalist once Makhloufi gets his medal revoked for doping once again
One race... He goes does as a better 800m runner than symmonds... If Clayton Murphy would have came onto the scene in 2010. Symmonds would be know as the brides maid of USA championship 800s.
I doubt symmonds in his primes stands a chance against 21 yr old Murphy. Murphy shows u how to run smooth with grace and class. Symmonds brash demeanor and wanting to sell his arm and put out his training and talk his smack... Yeah I bet he'll never attempt to toe the line against Murphy
Murphy, berian, and yes even brazier.. These three are young and the future of the 800m In the US
I don't think Clayton is just quite on the level of centro in the 1500 but he will be very soon
There was some guy who posted during the heats, bragging how he had picked Berian to do well and Murphy to bomb . . . and look at how poorly he did in the heats. Bet that guy feels like a schmo.

So awesome. Murphy >> Brazier
You're a bad fan. Using this "opportunity" to diss Brazier.
Does 1:42 indicate a possible 3:30 or sub 3:30 in a 1500 after the olympics? Assuming he doesn't drink himself to death; which is what I would do. But that's why I'm on the couch posting anonymously and not in Rio.
