Good for her. Rule 40 is bullshit.
Dance with who brung ya, as they say.

Didn't we see shots of her family in the stands during prelims all wearing NB shirts that said go emma? I thought that was also a creative work around.

What are the spikes she wore? They don't look like anything from NB that's currently available. I like the bit of cushioning on the heel.
I'm guessing a new version of the LD5000... which would make it the v4. Just a guess though.

But didn't I read that the women have to wear a Nike sports bra?
I think that's an area where a woman would want to wear what she feels comfortable in.
As I said, the USOC's policies/Olympic Charter (which is where Rule 40 comes from) have precedence over USATF. Sports bras are undergarment= Specialized equipment= athlete's can wear whatever they want. I'll cite the link again for any athlete who wants to know their rights. This is also what the UOSC Athlete Ombudsman is for.

You can pretty much make out the 5000 in this shot:

Some rules are there to be broken.
Some "rules" are also potentially (likely) illegal under competition/antitrust laws.
Who among you recall the controversy after Lasse Viren's victory in Montreal (1976 Olympics)? He took off his Tiger spikes and held them aloft, acknowledging his 'sponsor' during the era of 'shamateurism'. I believe there was even an attempt to boot Viren from the rest of the games. Fortunately that did not happen.
This thread is worthless without pics!

You're welcome.

You are either a troll or stupid. I suspect the latter. She did not break any rule and she is not playing a grey area. She is allowed to wear NB shoes. She is not required to keep them on her feet. She did exactly what she is allowed to do.
Coburn: one, Rule 40: zero.
Jenny did the exact same thing when she won the WC in 2011. She had one shoe in each hand along with the corners of the flag draped behind her and I recall it seeming very deliberate then too.
Has Nike sued anybody in the last 12 minutes? #mosthatedcompanyinamerica

What brand is "Z?" is what most people around the world are thinking.
Thanks--great pics: and the glutes in the third one.

would have been funny if she got the shoe to hang right over the swoosh.
Well USA is paying for her to be competing at the Olympics so follow whatever rules are set in place.
Just like Michael Jordan was fined during the medal ceremony for the Dream Team for draping the American flag deliberately over the Reebok logo that was the official ceremony sponsor as he was a Nike athlete. Actually pretty comical if you go back and read how he felt it was disrespectful to him not to be treated like an adult and work with him and his individual sponsor and now 20 some years later Nike treats all the Olympic athletes for the sports they sponsor even worse. When the tables were turned Nike didn't seem to have a problem with the rogue individual athletes so hopefully more will push the boundaries like Emma did. Good for her.
She did it for her rather large following in the foot-fetish community. Sassy girl!
