Thought he would come back to Merritt and James after that blazing first 100, but he didn't look behind him and stepped on the last gear in the homestretch. I think Lane 8 was an advantage for Van Niekirk, just made him run for his life.

WVN is the honey badger. Lane 8. He don't give F#$%.

Mutants are among us.
Yeah, right. She's a dead ringer fir my mother in law.

Prime Michael Johnson would run sub 40 on this track.
Nope.
Its not that fast a track. And MJ had plenty of chances. This guy is the only athlete to have ever run sub 10, sub 20, and sub 44.
He'll be the first to run sub 43.

So far ahead of the rest of the field too...where did this guy come from? As in like what had he done before Worlds last year?
Well he is 22....so he would have been 20 at that point. I'm as skeptical about T&F performances as the next guy, but there is nothing other than the quality of his performance that suggests pharmaceutical aid. So if we aren't going to celebrate his run because of skepticism that means we can't celebrate any world records (unless, of course, run by a blue collar American). That, to me, is sad. So I am pumped about this.
Remember when MJ said the mother of the man who would break his records hadn't been born yet? Both record breakers were already alive.

I didn't know Michael Jordan ran track
That was jaw dropping.
I've been quietly watching the games but I yelled out when I saw that result.
I thought it was under 43.50 and then saw that 0 after the 3. and wow!
He didn't even glance over his shoulder coming out of the last turn.
Dead focus on the finish line.
I am surprised they did that whole preview on him without mentioning that he is the only sub 10, sub 20 sub 44 guy ever.
Speed kills.
Bolt is glad he didn't move up.
Good thing those doping Russians had to stay home or there would be world records all over the place.
Nobody with any brains believes Coe was clean then or now.

I'm one of those idiots who always wished Wariner would have moved up to 800 in his prime due to his speed, ability to finish strong, and slight build. I'm gonna say it with this guy, I think he could run 1:40-1:43

Michael Johnson goes home devastated.
Who's he?
He didn't see anyone the whole race. So couldn't he have done this all by himself in a time trial?

He didn't celebrate after finishing, he stood there looking worried.
He could have run 42.70 in a time trial.
That was unreal.
I thought to myself "Wow, he got a great start" and it looked like James and Merritt were catching up at about the 250 meter mark. What WVN did over that last 100 meters..damn that was something special.

Who's he?
He's the agent that doesn't represent Van Niekirk. Should have signed him last year.
Incredible. Watching it live, I noticed a 20.1 when the 3 favorites were passing the 200m mark and thought, "Woah, that's crazy fast." When they passed the 300m in 31.0, I thought, "Good grief... that's close to the 300m WR... no way... no way we could see a WR, could we? He just needs around a 12..." His form was incredible, but he was definitely slowing down in the last 100.
You move up to the 800 when you can't win in the 400.
I don't see him messing with the 800.
And I don't understand this fascination.
