Ropp did what he did 4 years ago. He put his corporate obligation to nike ahead of his medal hopes. He basically served as a blocking force for Farah so that the other runners would have to go around him before trying to pass mo.

He went home?

Rupp looked okay with about 250m to 300m left..then just fell off.
Oh well, he can still run a hell of a lot faster than of us!
Yeah, and Curry's little brother can still play basketball a hell of a lot better than any of us. But somehow that doesn't quite seem like the right metric to be using.

Yeah. Hope he makes it back for the marathon.

He will sneak up to a medal when the others get DQ'd for doping.
Are you talking about Ahmed?
I doubt he's devastated after beating 2 out of the 3 best that kenya has to offer

That is exactly what I thought. If he didn't mess around with marathon training and just focused on the 10k I think he would have had the closing speed to contend for a medal.

You mean like he did last year?

Exactly. In 2012 he got silver with 27:30 with a 14:05 first half. Few top runners can run 13:10 to 13:15 for a second 5000. Stellar day for him? No. Run those splits, beat many top runners and be fully in the mix with 600 to go? That's still a superb run.

Especially absurd because Salazar says he concentrating on the 5K and 10K next year...and THEN going back to the marathon! How does that make sense????

Thank you very much TrackBot. You are correct again. I hope that Mr. Salazar has not over-trained Galen…like he did to himself when he moved to the marathon
There is still hope for the devastated "Rupp boys".
When Frank Shorter won the 1972 Olympic marathon, he had the fastest 10K PR in the entire Olympic marathon field, 27:51, coming in 5th behind Viren's new world record at the Olympics, just before the marathon.
When Carlos Lopes won the 1984 Olympic marathon, he had the fastest 10K PR in the entire Olympic marathon field, 27:17, set just behind Fernando Mamede when he ran a new world record of 27:13 earlier in 1984.
Galen Rupp has the fastest 10K PR in the entire 2016 Olympic marathon field.
