Lemme guess, it hurts when you pee.
Some comments on the comments:
SB for season best is always listed in results. This is not odd.
27:05 is a very fast 10,000, especially with a slow start.
This is not a disappointing race.
5th for Rupp is very good. It is certainly higher than his expected marathon finish.
I am so want to note that there were a lot of people in it in the last 1K.
That was a fast and deep and very competitive race.
Murphy's drugs kicking in at the right time. Guys been running PB's since XC last year. Yeah that's real believable.

They probably both had some sort of injury problems. Maybe from the intense speed work? Who knows. Kam may have peaked in Cardiff. That 59:10 after falling and running in those conditions is the GOAT Half Marathon
Got to be some injuries. But perhaps also the rebellion in the Kenyan camp due to mismanagement and claims of unfair treatment to athletes.
http://www.nation.co.ke/news/The-scandal-of-Kenya-s-Rio-Olympics/1056-3343980-kvao27z/index.htmlThe chaos have affected athletes different with some running with "hate" like happened with Vivian Cheruyot and her teammates yesterday. For others, they just lost the morale completely and Kamworor and Karoki may be among them. There is a lot of uncertainty but hopefully order will be restored immediately with the visit by the Kenyan Vice President last night.

So the two Kenyans who drop out of their trials 10k do poorly while their trials winner medals. Time to re-think giving free passes onto their Olympic team.
makes sense to use flats! at least for me, is logical because spikes tire morethe legs that racing flats! He needs to recover quickly this week and the flats were a good election!

And the guy that would have gone in his place would have medaled? So is the rule if you can't medal send a slower guy in your place who can't either?
Exactly. If they hold a trials race and you dominate, I'm pretty sure you don't owe anything to anyone. Well done to Galen. I have said before, I will be surprised if he doesn't medal in the marathon. A great professional career regardless.
It is truly amazing how stupid some of the comments on this board are ("deny another American...").

This is why many T&F athletes don't have respect for distance runners. They don't bother to learn or care about the sport, and have tunnel vision for their races only.
Most of my distance teammates in college just ignored the rest of the track team. As a distance guy who started as a sprinter / field eventer, it was really dissapointing. I don't blame the rest of T&F for not having much respect for distance runners. Much of this board seems to think field events shouldn't exist. The field event finals so far have been the most dramatic.

And the point here is that Rupp, despite his marathon training, still had relatively good speed.
I know times have changed and all that but I hope this is part 1 of Rupp replicating Shorter in '72.
Well, maybe if Rupp--like Shorter--had broken the AR in the 10000 in the Olympics he would have a shot at a thon medal. But, Rupp did do that. Instead, he sat back like a turd and allowed for a slow wind up and got smoked. Rupp will like DNF or run 2:12+ for 10th in the thon. Running the 10000 was a YUGE mistake for him.

Pushing the pace would help the guy that was barely hanging on? It isn't like Rupp was running a sub 54 and guys were pulling away. He was running like a guy with too much junk in his legs after a hard race.
As far as Rupp not medalling, dude was 5th. That is with in the margin of error. Run that race 20 times and he might get a couple of medals. Or finish 8th. That seems a lot better than sending one to get lapped.
Wrong. Galen has been doing marathon training. His biggest upside should be strength and endurance right now at the expense of speed. Had he pushed the pace early and gotten others to help (seems like the Kenyans would've gone with him) he would've taken the kick out of many of the folks who beat him. His best shot for a medal was to be in the 26:40-26:50 range-which is a faster pace but would've been a slower kick (his strengths right now).
People keep talking about '72 and Shorter. Well, if Galen--like Shorter--had run an AR in the 10k he would've 1) probably medaled in the 10k 2) gotten some confidence going into the marathon. As it turns out, he got his a$$ handed to him over the last 400m in the 10k, didn't run an AR, didn't medal in the 10k, and will go into the marathon in a physical AND, perhaps more importantly, mental deficit.
I would not be surprised to see a DNF from him in the marathon especially if it's hotter that day than it was today. At best he'll be just outside of 10th place with a PR of 2:10-mid. He's not going to medal. Running the 10k for his was not a smart thing to do.
The outcome would have been exactly the same if Rupp took the lead early. Look at what happened at the US champs in the 5K. It takes a lot to be able to front run an Olympic race. Those guys were just better however the race was run. Does anyone seriously think Rupp was capable of dropping any of the medalists? I don't. He ran a good race.
This was not a slow race in Olympic final terms. It was only 4 seconds off the Olympic record after a slow first half. This was a great competes time race to watch.
Competitive not compete time LOL
