Isn't it ironic how at the World Championships Molly Huddle was just edged out by Infeld at the finish line.. and now at the Olympics, Infeld is just ahead of American Record Huddle at the finish line, but still has 1 lap to go!! How poetic. LOL
How is that ironic?

She's dirty as well. That whole field was maybe one of the most doped up women's fields in history.
Yep. She dropped nearly a minute and a half in her specialty race at age 31.

Makes you think that Huddle's American Record at 5k is very soft (14:42.64). I think Rowbury, Simpson and Huddle could all take it down if they really wanted to. None of the best Americans will run this any more because the international competition is much tougher at 5k than even at 10k.
Rowbury has run a lot of 5000m and doesn't have the record. It is a solid record. It is pretty much right in line with every other record outthere +-5s. It would be nice to see Huddle take one more crack at it to see if she can push it sub 14:40 by my understanding is that she is off to marathon land. Hope she runs a 2:18 and we can all wonder if she ran the right event in the olympics:)
She will be 'injured', if they don't double the dollars.
And which field was tougher, the WC field or the Olympic field? I'd rather have the American Record 8 days a week versus that bronze. Huddle is better and proved it, catching Infeld at the line and Infeld knew she was coming, look at the photo!!!

it was quite a strange race.ayana's world record in 29.17,the first 8 women running 30.26,or under, and then 9th from norway ran 31.14.thats a huge gap.
Yes, but that gap developed very early in the race. Most people thought that many of the top 8 would not finish well and it certainly looked like Molly was one of them. She was in the back of that pack and recognized that going with them was the only way she would have a shot. She only picked off two of them so that shows how different this race was in terms of typical World Championship or Olympic races. When everyone else let them go it was evident that they would not be in sight of the front pack unless those at the front faded in a huge way. It is amazing that nobody really did because that pace was insane. Not surprised by that huge gap considering how it played out early.
Congratulations on a great run - what a terrific race!
Totally agree with this post. I'd rather be a faster runner, way faster, than getting a bronze in a World Championship race that WAS weaker than the Olympics. Your opinion will most certainly vary.

I've always felt most of the 10K times are soft, because most races are run in the same old sit and kick style, and not run often. So nice to see what people are actually capable of.
What was Huddle's 5000 split? It seems like it might have been sub-15, right? If that's the case I think she's capable of 14:30 or just under in a properly paced race. We may never know, since she's moving up to the marathon.
I hope this inspires other Americans to shoot for more ambitious goals in the 5000 too. Because seeing our top Americans struggle to break 15 in 5000 races is kind of embarrassing, especially after yesterday.
We'll let our top Americans know how "you" feel...I'm on it.
War Molly!!!
Way to go Molly!
I doubt Kenya or Ethiopia has enough scientists to develop top notch drugs. We are not talking about Russia, US, or China here.
I don't get the bashing of Infeld. She ran a great race last year and finished 3rd. She deserved the medal. Molly was better prepared for this type of race, and ran an AR. The Olympic field was better by far than last year's field, but that's not Infelds fault. That race is a year ago....move on to the expectations of THIS YEAR.
Guess what, sometimes.the best athlete doesn't always place the highest. That's why we have trials and championships, to see who puts it together that day.
And my final argument---rather have a medal than a fast time. 10 years from now, if you have the medal, that's proof you were great for a day. If you just have a record or ran fast bit no medal, your probably the lame loser who talks about how great they were, better than so and so, just like every Uncle Rico out there.
Interesting argument until you derailed it with the "lame loser" bit. Bad show.
Yeah, and your'e the loser who bases a person's performance on one race, the Olympics. Being great for one day is proof of an athlete's ability? What a stupid thing to say. So if Haile never had a medal, but ran great races outside of the Olympics, Alberto Cova would be better, right? What a lame loser you are. Back to your Playgirl magazines now.No one was blaming Infled you twat, but she ran a pr and got lapped by the top 5 runners in Olympics, so the WC field was weak or she wouldn't have gotten 3rd. Do the math little man.

This is a discussion board you a-hole. What lines of discussion would you approve of? This is a waste of time, and why I seldom bother to read these anymore. I don't suppose anyone has anything useful like Huddle's 5000 split, or anything more interesting than trolling and sniping?
