Good to hear. The crash looked nasty and she was laying motionless for quite a while.

Yeah that did not look good watching it happen live. Made me sick to my stomach.

Not correct. The back injury is claimed as not serious; cracked bone, but not extensive. A broken back implies spinal damage with more bone damage.
Rio Olympics 2016: Annemiek van Vleuten escapes serious injury after crash
Dutch rider Annemiek van Vleuten went to hospital with severe concussion and three small fractures in her lower back after crashing as she led the race.
http://www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/37005124Uhhh, are you aware that a fracture is a break? The original statement was 100% correct. You were incorrect in your assumption. Moron.
.. Any spinal fracture sounds serious to me..
Annemiek van Vleuten: Dutch Cyclist Reportedly in Intensive Care After Crash in Road Race at Rio Olympics
Dutch media reports that Van Vleuten is being kept in the hospital overnight after sustaining fractures to her spine and a concussion. She crashed head first into the pavement during Sunday's race.
She's "OK" per the Dutch team. Move on along.
She did appear to have expired, but she's intensive care. Injuries could be pretty serious.
The former cycling gold medalist Chris Boardman told the BBC: “I’m actually quite angry, because I looked at the road furniture and thought nobody can crash here and get up. This was way past technical; this was dangerous.â€

Sad to see Abbott fall to 4th at the end too.

Severe concussion is also not something to laugh off...
Maybe Christopher Reeve would not have been a quadripalegic if a fractured vertebrae were "nothing serious"...give me a break. Those injuries ARE serious.
Maybe not in the sense of extreme blood loss serious, but serious enough to greatly reduce her quality of life from this point forward, much like losing your leg. Sure you're not going to die, but you'll never be the same.

No, please listen to the Letsrun Doctars.
A fractured back and severe concussion are not serious.
Someone quickly call the hospital in Rio and explain to them she needs to be moved out of intensive care right now as she is taking up a bed.
She'll be racing again, as will the three guys from the men's race that broke a collarbone, shoulder and pelvis respectively.
That's the world of pro cycling. Not for the faint of heart.

I hope she does.
Just astounded at people trying to make out her injuries to be minor. Intensive care is no joke.
Unbelievable how long it took to get medical help to her after she crashed.

That poor, poor girl. First she suffers the misfortune of a horrific bike crash, and then she has to be treated for it in a Brazilian hospital.
Sure, just have her lie their until the Americans can send a medical team and airlift her to the states for proper treatment.
You should never leave your mommy's basement, lipstick, because the real world is such a scary and dangerous place.

Thank you.
Broken Back: Spinal cord injury due to broken bone.
Fractured Back: No spinal cord injury.
The rider who tumbled has no spinal cord injury that has been noted.
