I hear ya, Info. But the criticism stands, because it is legitimate griping for what is expected in August 2016. And some of the things that got under my craw were human error in non-communication -- same now as then.
For example, Mikey Brannigan's awesome 6-sec improvement and first sub-4 is HUGE news! But it was not to the announcers, who should have picked up on that immediately, just like any race, independent of technology. Would have been huge news 30 years ago – the autistic horse blasts through the legendary barrier.
And, of course, there’s Drew Hunter -- THE big name among the up-and-coming -- yet he didn't exist for the announcers after the start. Well, they tried -- you can hear an announcer whispering "Where's Drew Hunter?" or something like that on the backstretch of the last lap.
In some ways, actually, Hunter's non-descript adidas singlet made it harder to see him. Adidas, you supposedly WANT to be seen, right? Isn’t that what advertising is all about? But with such a drab singlet, you're just lost in the mix! Really, really stupid from a marketing standpoint.
Criticism/griping makes it seem like I hated the event. Not so. It’s a great idea, and there are good people working really hard to pull it off. It’s just that they can do better on the communicating and the camera work. NEXT YEAR, BABY!
