You better believe he is. He's toyed with the field in every 5k/10k he's run this summer.
You mean, like the field that let him go at 13:10 pace in London?

My bookie has Russia as overwhelming favourites in this event?

Hardly a lock
How is Rudisha not a lock?
Alistair Brownlee will win I think specially with Gomez out injured. I think he's got the beating of his brother when both are fit.
Bolt 100 and 200 Mo 5 and 10 Eaton Dec USAM4x400 Ayana 5000 Semenya 800
I thought about that but if Felix can break 49 she might actually be able to beat Semenya. But of course Semenya could run 46 and cause chaos.

Has Semenya stated intent to run the 400? If so, Felix isn't a lock.
He find it hilarious when you call Semenya "it"
To modify the question: who is the most likely American track & field athlete to win a Gold Medal. I am not informed enough about the Field events, but I would say the ONLY American who I think approaches a "lock" will be performing in one of the most fickle events of all. Clip a hurdle or miss a height in the PV, and you're done in the Decathlon. But I would still say Eaton, if I had to put money on it. On the women's side: I have great faith in Allyson Felix in the 400. Every time she has run that distance an Olympic Games she has exceeded expectations, so I'm picking her to win it in her swan song.
Watch out for Margaret Nyairera in the 800m
C. Kipruto certain is in the mix and will medal in any race.
Slow race: (1) Kemboi in lane 6; (2)/(3) C. Kipruto /Mekhissi-Benabbad; (4) B. Kipruto; (5) Jager
Sub 8 all the way: Toss up between C. Kipruto and Jager. Both have sub 8 abilities, but I think Jager could run away from Kipruto when it came to it, like he was doing to Birech before the fall last year.
Bolt, Farah, Rudisha and Kemboi will all win their events, no doubt. Id like to say Kipchoge as well, but anything can happen in an olympic marathon. Expect great things from Galen Rupp, he can run well in the heat.

Gwen Jorgensen is nearly a lock in the triathalon.
Dalilah Muhammed should have no problems.
Sadly, Semenya is the biggest lock.
Triathlon bike course is pretty bumpy and Jorgensen quite often gets left behind. I imagine a lot of the better riders will try to put her under serious pressure and she could end up with far too much to do on the run,
Usually she comes flying through as she's by far the fastest runner, but it's much easier for her on a flat course (even then she's often off the pace, it could be minutes on this course.)
Eaton is a lock so is that Dude running as a women Caster something not sure of any other locks at least for track events.

I wouldn't even consider Dibaba the favorite in the 1500. I expect Faith Kipyegon to beat her.
And I can't say what Semenya might do in the 400, but I expect Felix to lose to Miller from the Bahamas anyway.
Obviously, the biggest T&F favorite in Rio is Eaton. Along with Semenya in the 800.
You're kidding right!? Only way Felix loses is if she doesn't run to her ability due her injury set back
This is the Same women that won USAs in 49 with a bum leg. Clearly not in good fitness looking at her 200 final.
She has had plenty of time to get ready. U will see a 48 and destroy Miller. Another 47 split on the relay they should break the WR
