I thought that he outkicked Andrews in that high school 800m. Beach has been undone by his high school records in the decathlon with hs and international implements, because they suggested that he was the best prospect in the decathlon we'd ever had. But he has never been able to throw very far in the shot, discus, or javelin. His marks in other events are excellent, though some are still significantly behind Eaton. For instance, he has jumped something like 2.07m in the hj, which is excellent for a decathlete, he has long jumped 7.88m, also excellent, he's gotten his 100m time down to 10.52 last year from 11.05 in high school, he's run 46.72 in the 400m, not in Eaton's league but a good time for an 800m runner who has gained weight for the decathlon. He also has the heptathlon record of 2:27 and a pr in the 800m of 1:47.75. His future is either in the 800m or 400m hurdles, but I don't think he has enough 400m speed to run 47.xx or maybe even low 48, which are needed to contend for world medals.
You have to assume the best 400m hurdlers are sub 46 guys at least and some like Angelo Taylor have been low 44 guys. That makes the 800m his best event. Curtis, go for it!
