I'd say that BMart did exactly what she had to do to avoid contact with the faster runner that cut in a bit too early. If Efraimson also had tried to avoid contact everything would have turned out fine. Instead she went wild.
BMart acted like a class act. Efraimson acted like a thug.
I agree with you. That being said, if I was coaching, Efraimson I'd be proud of her for not being intimidated as a 19-year old. She was aggressive.
I think Efraimson ran an impatient race. The logical thing to do when Martinez comes in there the tiniest bit is to move in yourself the tiniest of bits. She could have settled into the middle of lane 1 and run the turn boxed in but she was freaking out about being boxed. There was no reason to be concerned with what's happening at that point. It's going to come down to the last 150m.
In both this race and World Juniors, she seemed to run with the false impression that she needed to be near the lead at all times. She might have Webb's mentality - 1st or nothing but if she'd been content to run in 5th or 6th and then kick for 3rd, I think she might have done better. In both races, here and WOrld juniors, she was spent with 50 to go.
