Yes, I've read a book! Actually I've read lots and lots of books. It's how you learn things, things that make you a better all round human being.
I also have more than four decades of running/reading about running behind me so I think that I am entitled to an opinion. Looking back on my own career, which, as an adult, was monumentally unsuccessful, I beleive my biggest mistake was not doing enough easy runs; runs where the sole purpose is recovery. I made the mistake, particularly in periods of intensive track work, of running too fast on the rune between hard sessions. It is a very easy mistake to make especially when training is going well but it means that when it comes to the big races you are usually a bit fatigued when you are standing on the start line.
