Last year my top weeks during the summer and winter were 40 miles per week. I did 5 weeks at 40 last summer, and 12 this past winter. Other weeks were 30 to 35 depending on whether I was building up or in season. I've been running year round for a little over two and a half years and will be a sophomore this fall.
This summer I built up to 50 mpw like this: 30, 40, 40, 50, 50 28 50 45 and this week I'm doing 50 again. Last winter I would do my easy runs at 7:40 to 8:00 minute pace. Right now, I'm doing them at 8:00 to 8:20 pace as I'm more tired from the mileage. My best times this spring were 11:10 for 3k and 5:13 for 1500. I'm female.
I just started doing tempos the last couple weeks as recommended by my coach's summer schedule. According to Daniels, I should be doing 3 miles at 6:40 pace, but I'm struggling to do them at 7:00 pace. I'm doing them in the morning when it is 65 degrees, so I don't think temperature is a factor. I assume that the higher mileage is making it harder for me to run paces I could do this winter, but how long does it normally take for your body to adjust to 10 miles more of higher mileage and be able to run the paces at the same effort level as you were able to when you were running 10 miles less per week?
