In the middle of a run last weekend I suddenly started having terrible pain in my left foot whenever I would push off the ground. It got so bad I had to stop and limp home. I could hardly put any weight on my foot the next day, although I could get around ok by putting most of the weight on my heel.
Went to the doc and got an xray, nothing showed up. He said I'd need an MRI to confirm if its a stress reaction/fracture, but since the treatment for that is just rest for 4-6 weeks I decided not to get one and save several hundred dollars and rest anyway. It's been getting a little better each day, still hurts a little when pushing off the toes when walking (its been 9 days since the pain started). I'm sort of tempted to start running again in a few days if it becomes pain free while walking.
Anyone have experience with this? Does it sound like a stress reaction? I know I should probably just rest the full 4-6 weeks, but I'd hate to lose so much fitness if i's really nothing serious.
