I'm all for diversity, so my question isn't intended to be negative. But I'm confused on how we've seemed to have included diversity in our societies common belief in ethics such as honesty, integrity, moral character, kindness and the like.
There's this odd (to me) inclusion of diversity to the point where it seems like a number of people believe that if diversity is achieved our society will somehow operate more harmoniously. Much like you'd expect if people are kind and honest with one another. Which we could obviously use more of, but I digress.
So when did diversity go from being a description of a group to an actual ethic that we all need to practice? Again, this isn't coming from some crack pot righty that's anti-diversity. But rather as someone who believes that if we as society want to include diversity as an actual ethic to live by, we've conflated a term with something it's not.
