Runners who are afraid of dogs.

leading 1590 meters of a 1600 only to have your d-bag teammate sit behind you the whole race and take it at the end. It would be one thing if they tried to make a move when you throw in a 75 lap to let them pass but come on

Triathletes that are new to the sport and go out and buy a $10,000 Tri bike and then decide that this Triathlon thing isn't for them. OK. It really isn't a peeve as much as humorous.

Barefoot running proselytes that want to convert you to their barefoot running religion.

Hobby joggers that think they're better than other hobby joggers. Unless, of course, your teammates are professional runners. No?

You're right, it's not. You're out for a little fresh air & exercise, not curing cancer.

When public high school tracks are locked up or you can't use them even though you payed tax money for them.

1: When the trailhead signs clearly specify that dogs must be leashed, and every last dog parent thinks that their dog is the one that doesn't snap at runners, or won't follow runners indefinitely, or jump up on me, forcing me to stop.

2: When middle-aged or older women walk 2-3 wide, taking up the entire path, and somehow think that I should have moved out of the way- when there is literally no where to go. Yes, I heard you complain, I'm not deaf like you.

3. When bikers are passing from behind, and give ambiguous warnings, so I'm not sure whether they want me to move, or in what direction.

4. Deer flies!

It's been mentioned already but I certainly agree that walkers in lane one of a track can be annoying and dangerous. It's quite baffling when there are only two or three people going round the track at drastically different speeds so it's obvious who should be yielding.

Yes. It is almost universal now that you can't get onto a track without jumping the fence and getting permission!

Disagree here. As a high school track coach I wish our track was actually locked. Our county has a rule forcing us to leave it unlocked. This has meant numerous times our track has been vandalized with spray paint, hurdles moved/broken, high jump mats used and left uncovered...

My biggest pet peeve when running is people wearing headphones. Passing someone and walking/running/biking that has headphones in and is scared when you pass them or clueless that there are other people there.

1. Cyclists dressed like Superheros on the Lakefront path yelling "ON YOUR LEFT!" The carnage I have seen from these clowns is bad. Always a couple of ambulances during the weekend in Chicago because of these guys.

2. Montrose Track etiquette - Soccer teams taking up the lanes before. Churros Guy riding the wrong way on the track. Chip Lady not moving and Seagulls coming around.

3. Cyclists (mainly delivery guys) yelling at me while running in the road. There will be blood.... Share the road dude. On the sidewalks it is more of a Steeplechase with kids, strollers, and dogs.

Reading through 3 pages of comments on pet peeves and realizing how many whiny, insecure basement dwellers make up our ranks. And the power save mode thing is pretty annoying.

This is more of running with a team setting:

This happens just walking too. Like if they force you to use the crosswalk while they wait, they get a free pass to heaven or something. It takes them 0.5 seconds to get out my way.
