Hi all, hope everyone had a good week.
M: 6 5x1 w/ min on, 1 min off and 6x10" sprints, light strength after
T: 6 w/ 6x10" sprints
W: 8 w/ 1.5 mi warmup (two 1 min pickups and some strides), 5k in 18:29 (5:40 1st mile), 3.5 mi cooldown. Hot!! 93F with a 105F heat index
Th: 20 min row and 10 min stationary bike
F: 5, was going to do strength after but my back felt really tight when warming up
S: 1 hour walk
Su: 8 mi
Total - 33
Race Report - Extremely hot so I tried to hydrate well at work before the race. My goal was to break 18:00 but with the weather I changed it to 18:37 (6:00 min mile pace). Got my bib then laid in the shade under a tree. Warmed up, and got to the starting line drenched in sweat.
Course starts out dead straight and flat for over am mile. Get out for the first mile and I'm feeling good. Check my watch hoping to see something like 5:55, but it is 5:40 !!! 2nd mile has a small uphill and downhill and three of the courses five turns. Could tell I was slowing down but trying to keep it together. 3rd mile is flat again with two turns and some cobblestones the last 200m that had everyone running in the gutter on the side of the road. Felt weird the end of the race because I just didn't have the will power to try and push the pace at the end in the heat. Homeostasis won.
Happy with the finish time of 18:29 and it was a very competitive race with people to run with the whole time even if most of them were passing me (I came in 145th place).
Took it easy the next couple of days because I could tell that I was pretty dehydrated from being out in the heat.
