The Rice track has a curb. I've personally tripped over it.
If it wasn't there last night, it would have to have been intentionally removed.
I didn't watch the meet. Was it definitely at Rice or could it have been at UH? They started hosting meets again this year and Carl Lewis tweeted something about watching this yesterday.
The meet was definitely on the blue track at Rice--on TV you could see a scoreboard with "Rice" on it.
Thank you for confirming that this track was built and striped for use with a curb, as does an examination of the staggers on aerial photos. But at the ATL meet, curbs were only placed on the two turns, and those curbs might have been some kind of temporary portable type.
The pro track group ITA in the mid-1970s came under a little suspicion for perhaps not weighing throwing implements and perhaps being a little loose with some other technical things. If Doyle wants to avoid this fate, he needs to rent facilities with bona fide curbs--and use them.
And claiming an AR in the wPV on ESPN when it was not, due to Suhr's far superior marks made indoors, also hurts the ATL's credibility.
