What I would like to know is whether the type of tests that have just been run were available in 2008 and 2012.
If so, that would raise a new question: namely why these athletes didn't fail tests at the time.
An article from November 30 2013:
http://www.smh.com.au/sport/new-german-test-detects-steroids-up-to-six-months-after-use-20131129-2yhqx.htmlThe detection window for a number of anabolic steroids has been increased.
The majority of these positives that have been recently announced are for anabolic steroids.
The majority of elite athletes use synthetic testosterone, so none of the major sporting stars will be caught by this improved test for steroids.
There is only one way to eradicate doping. WADA needs to develop doping tests with long detection windows.
The real scandal is that the IOC only invests peanuts into anti-doping research.
Developing doping tests with very long detection windows is certainly achieveale, but it will be expensive to develop such tests.
Thanks for that info.
I hope the IAAF make a bigger deal of this by going out of their way of naming and shaming all, once the B samples are tested and due process has occurred.
I guess there must be legal issues at play that are complex, time consuming, and make it difficult for the IAAF to do much more at present?
Early rumours are that the IOC will NOT impose a blanket ban on Russia. Official announcement due shortly.
So far, so good. This sentence therein from December 2015
"The IAAF is retesting the samples of 28 athletes from the 2005 and 2007 World Championships suspected of doping..."
sounds quite different than the IAAFs news from August 2015:
http://www.bbc.com/sport/athletics/33867962""The IAAF is provisionally suspending them," it said in a statement."
What? 28 athletes got suspended in AUgust 2015, were not allowed to compete in 2015 World Championships in Beijing, but in December their samples are still being retested?
That's one out of 28. Sigh. Was is just propaganda that 28 were suspended, or are we watching yet another cover-up?
Well, normally we hear the names after the positive B test; a question of days, not years.
Sounds like a cover-up to me, if the retired dopes won't get named.
Why don't you ask the IAAF for an update?
Not a cover up, not propaganda,
This was a complete freaking legal disaster for the IAAF
In 2015 after WADA rules were changed to allow retesting for 10 years the IAAF went back and retested samples from the 2005 World Champs ( and at the same time 2007 as well).
They caught a load of Russians doping in 2005 (i.e Andrianova and Lysenko).
and a few others from different countries in 2007 (Abeylegesse. the Greek female triple jumper).
The 2007 cases are still floating about with national anti-doping agencies who aren't in a rush to prosecute, They will be dealt with eventually but don't expect them for a while.
Big problem is the 2005 cases. Andrianova got banned for 2 years but applied to CAS. She won because the WADA/IAAF clearly showed that when the original 8 year statute of limitation on the 2005 samples they became ineligible for more testing.
Andrianova was cleared and the rest of the 2005 cases were quietly dropped.
What we don't know is how many, apart from the 2 I named, came from 2007 and when those cases will be concluded. Been 7 months so far....
Basically the IAAF lawyers screwed up big time here
Sentence above should read
"when the original 8 year statute of limitation on the 2005 samples ran out in 2013"
Mahk daddy showed his cards in the semi-final of the 2012 olympic 1500 when he absolutely destroyed the field with a blistering last 300. Dude didn't show any sort of restraint or conservation of energy in anticipation of the final he would have to run.

Did you miss the links I already posted on this thread?
The Carbon-Isotope ratio test can detect synthetic exogenous testosterone, which has a smaller ratio of C-13/C-12 than endogenous testosterone.
The detection test for EPO has also recently been improved and has a longer detection window.
Would you like to know what the detection window for EPO is now?
Sorry. It is a secret.

OK?
Seriously, how can the IOC let it be known that so many athletes have tested positive but not announce the names of the people who tested positive? Why aren't news organizations following up to demand the names or publicly pressure the IOC to release the names? Why aren't people interested in clean sport making a bigger deal out of this? How do the names keep getting buried?
due process

Why are people saying the names won't be published?
Surely the IAAF have to publish the names eventually, and if that isn't the case then why isn't WADA and other bodies on their case demanding names?
Bump.
it's funny (sad) that the thought of someone in the 1500m final (especially if Men's final) is almost as exciting as the results of race itself. what if it were Mak and Leo gets the crown?!bummerp.s. if it's willis, i'm never running again.

That's because many fans believe doping doesn't exist at the elite level of men's distance running. Therefore, when something like this happens, people can't handle the anticipation ðŸ˜.
And...why on Earth would you stop running if it's Willis? Does it make a difference who it is if you truly enjoy running anyway?

You can start right here with LRC where many believe that only the Russians are involved with PEDs.
