Light up, Yo!
the poster did indicate that in retrospect Decker-Slaney was suspect based on AW and being married to a doper. Probably among those whose test results they swept under the rug prior to the Games.
That said, a little background from 1984. Indoors, may have been at Jack In the Box, Decker-Slaney plowed over a lapped runner at the finish of a mile race. I think the other woman was from Japan. She was in lane 1 just crossing the line as Decker Slaney was finishing, and Mary just pushed her face down. There was a bit of a stir, but as usual she was petulant and defensive.
Then at OTs in LA a month before the Olympics Ruth Wysocki outkicked her with 50 m to go, to win in 4:00. It was the first time in years that D-S had been beaten by an American. She pretty much pouted on the awards stand. She may or may not have medaled in the Olympics, hadn't shown the form she'd had in 1983.
Back to the indoor track reference, in the interviews after the fall D-S was very defensive and said something like she'd have been crucified (my word not hers) if she'd gotten physical pushed "Little Zola" (I clearly remember that) to the track.
