Worth noting, if he's closing in 50 for a final time of 13:45, that means his pace for the previous 11.5 laps would be just over 14:00 pace. 14:00 pace for a low 13:00 - 13:15 guy would feel like a jog.
50.0 might be a stretch (thought not impossible), but 50.9 seems pretty doable.
Lagat ran 51.9 in a 12:59 race. Lagat was probably in 3:29 shape when he did that. Slow the pace down by almost a minute, and I think Kiprop, in 3:26-3:27 shape, could close 1 second faster.
You guys and your stupid stop watch mentality.
Look Galen Rupp has run a 3:50.9 mile. He's run a 26:49 10k. He ought to be able to wipe the floor with Ryan Hill and Ryan Vail in any type of race.
Just because Bernard Lagat did something is not indication that someone else can. Just because Kiprop can run 3:27 and a good XC does not mean he can run a good 5k, or that he can kick fast in a 5k.
Myabe he can. Probably he can, but races on run on the track not in someone's head based on PR and theoretical PR's.
