I been 4 years today, that U.S runner Pat Porter pass away in a airplane crash in Arizona, we lost a big man, friend & runner. Keep on running in heaven, Rest In Peace.

He was a good man. Very kind to me. I hope his Trish and Shannon are well. My recollection is he died on the 26th of July 2012.
Thank you for remembering Pat.
I was out in Colorado on vacation when I heard the news 4 years ago. Put on the running shoes and went outside, stumbling into a light jog to loosen up the legs. Once I got on an open stretch of road, I hammered a mile as hard as I was able. It was a not-so-blazing 5:28, but I tried my best for Pat.

Thanks for remembering, was just thinking about that the other day.
RIP Pat Porter.
Thanks for the memories.
Their name is Mud is my favorite Nike poster. Before I knew who Pre was I loved Pat Porter.
RIP Pat.

Agreed. As a youngster I didn't know Pre then either, but I knew Pat Porter. He showed me that it's ok to be tall and skinny because you can still excel at a sport. He was very much a role model, and still very much missed.
Man has it been that long since I opened my first Nike spikes (the ones in the pic) and tacked a pic of porter running xc (a sport I didn't know existed until then)
I remember the 1984 World Cross Country Championships at the Meadowlands. Pat just missed a medal. Alberto Cova, the 10000 Olympic Champ in 84 and World Champ in 83 was 11th.
The fans were high up in the enclosed viewing area overlooking the horse race track that was used for the multi-loop race. It was excellent spectating, but not as fun as the usual running from mile point to mile point to watch a race at ground level.

US Mens team got silver medal, women got gold
I thought about him the other day. I found a channel with some races and he was in them in cross country.
In the channel I saw some others I like such as Francie Larrieu in a relay, Jim Spivey and Ruth Wysocki were racing in the '88 Grand Prix finals and more.
I remember PP coming to one of our club races running the 10K.
I found other videos with him running cross somewhere.
