Im 39 years old and just starting to train consistantly after about 13 years off. I used to be pretty good, state champion in high school, division 1 scholarship, etc. I've noticed on the runnersworld forums and some of these forums people are recomending running extremely slow, like over 9 minute pace for their easy days. This just seems ridiculously slow to me. Is there really a benefit to that slow pace when building base miliage? Im in my 4th week of training now and havent really done any training runs slower then 8 minute pace. I should hit about 25 miles this week and intend to build my miles up to about 50 this fall and see what i can run for a 5k road race.
