I had a pretty good stretch of racing over the last year or two, running times from 15:29 for the 5k (last August) to 2:30 for the marathon (Chicago last October), capturing masters titles at a couple of major races in the process (with the last decent race being a sub 55 ten miler in terrible conditions in April). I trained about 80 mpw leading up to my marathon (maxing out at 100), and then about 40-50 from then until the end of April.
Unfortunately, in the process of training through an injury during my marathon training cycle, I did enough damage to my plantar fascia that I need surgical intervention (topaz procedure, not partial release).
I am two months past the procedure. During those two months, I did not do any exercise at all, other than walk to my refrigerator for beers. I put on about 7 pounds in the process.
Doc cleared me to start using a stationary bike and a rowing machine on Monday, so I have finally started to get some aerobic work in the last two days. I won't be allowed to run for another 3 weeks at least.
Shooting for a competitive age group showing at Boston next April - I turn 45 a few months before race day.
Time to see how a middle aged guy comes back after 2 months of absolutely no training and 3 months without running.
