Hello. I've a goal of finding my potential in running; my "pie-in-the-sky" being to become a great mid-distance man like El Gurrejouj, Snell, Symmonds, Coe, and Herb Elliot (Assuming I'm pig-headed enough to take EPO, Test., etc after 5-10 years though. That's nothing to joke about and the health implications are serious. I realize that). Overweight throughout high school, so I never seriously practiced 'til last year. I did Weightlifting (Bench and Clean & Jerk) in school though, and practiced strength training and light jogging after graduating. 5'7" 155-160. Currently running 40-50miles + Cycling + Calisthenics to prepare for a 4 Miler in Sept. My work capacity seems to be 1-2hrs./day currently.
Here are my current PRs (keeping in mind I haven't seriously trained for the sprint events and mostly doing 5K style training for the past 1.5 years and heavy lifting 'til March this year)
40m: 5.72 (30m:4.25, 40yd. 5.23)
100m:15.62
200m: 29-30.xx high
400m: 59-61
800m: 2:34.xx
Mile: 5:33.96
2 Miles: 12:17
5K: 19:25
I'm so confused as to what event I'm strongest in; seeing how I've got fast-twitch fibers yet still enjoy going for 10-12 mile long runs and 5K training. Yes, a lack of aerobic base which you only get from practicing consistently for years. However, I'm just not sure what event I should work on after this 4 Miler. Can't afford to see a coach right now (think I'd bother trolling this forum if I had someone knowledgeable to talk to?).
Thanks for reading. I do realize that I don't need to find my potential in running to be healthy and fit. My thing is that I don't want to be 30-40 years old and thinking "Wow, why didn't you take advantage of your youth? Now you'll never know your physical prowess". They say it's better to've loved and lost than to never've loved at all; tried your best and failed than to've never even bothered.
