While the Terry Hershey Trail is a good spot for training, it's general vicinity isn't necessarily the most desirable if you're 30, single, and looking for a lively atmosphere (i.e. it runs through the suburbs). What general area is your job going to be in?
Depending on your price range, there are a number of new apartments and tow homes in the area know as Rice Military, all of which is located a few yards to a few miles (easily running distance or short bike ride) to Memoral Park. If you're running at 4:30 am every day, Menorjak would likely be a more suitable choice given it is a lighted path and there are a number of both morning and evening runners that hit the trail daily.
Other areas with high concentrations of younger folks and nightlife: Mid-town (immediately west of 45/downtown) and Montrose (both of which are equidistant to Memorial Park of Hermann Park, each consisting of crushed granite trails), The Heights (basically, north of I-10 but south of 610 from west of I45 to the western portion of 610). The Galleria and Rice Village areas are both nice and not far from some parks, but - in my humble opinion - are not worth the additional $$ you would spend and are surrounded by wealthy, "old money" type neighborhoods.
